Lol im czech and czech is hard even for natives
Besides my mother tongue which is danish of course, I only speak English fluently....I understand and can speak a little German too, but only very little and contrary to what some might think it is not very similar to danish
I want to learn Spanish very much. It is one of my favorite languages, although I have many favorites like: French, Italian, Romanian, Latvian, Icelandic ect.
is catalan really completely different to spanish?
Hoper, answering your question: Catalan is a Romanic language (a dialect of the Latin that roman soldiers spoke), so some words might be similar to Spanish, French or Italian, but, on the whole, they are very different from each other. Catalan and Spanish are both very complex and reach , philologically speaking, great for literature works, but I would chose Catalan for poetry and classic theater; it sounds beautiful to the ears.
I speak both, but I think and dream in Catalan, never in Spanish. Catalan and Spanish culture is quite not the same, and we don't feel Spanish because we are just not Spanish, no matter what the passports say.
The first words I can remember were told to me by my loving mother, but the first words in Spanish I can recall were told to me by a teacher at the nursery school. Can you see the difference?
Salutacions ben afectuoses - (This is Catalan for: Warm regards)

I love them too, but Catalan has a priority for me because I love my culture, not only the language.Catalan is so cool!! I love both languages and both cultures

I thank you for your comment, dpdx.
Japanese is the hardest language I trudged through. Still salty about it. Other languages like Russian are no walk in the park.Great thread! I'm currently learning Japanese. I'd like to learn to read French, Russian, Chinese, and Persian in the future. Japanese for the anime and manga, French, Russian, Chinese, and Persian for the literature. I imagine I'm not going to be so young when I finally reach this goal
But you trudged through it didn't you? , I went through the Core2k deck on Anki and started reading visual novels with a text hooker. Not going to lie, a lot of the time I have a difficult understanding what I'm reading but I'm slowly getting better. What other languages do you know?Japanese is the hardest language I trudged through. Still salty about it. Other languages like Russian are no walk in the park.

Fellow Cantonese speaker! Wish I knew how to improve my Cantonese though since I'm unable to talk about more advanced topics. Really impressive to know those languages at your age though.English, Cantonese, Spanish, Russian, and Esperanto.
Thanks I learned it from my parents. Mandarin is more useful though outside of Guangdong.Well, damn. You're even more ambitious than I am. More drive too no doubt!

For sure. The newer districts in Guangzhou are entirely Mandarin-speaking. Shenzhen is almost completely Mandarin-speaking, even though it's next to Hong Kong. I notice most overseas communities still have many, and in some cases, majority Cantonese speakers though. Thank goodness or I wouldn't be able to order 乾炒牛河 with any confidence. Thanks I learned it from my parents. Mandarin is more useful though outside of Guangdong.
