Frequency Therapeutics — Hearing Loss Regeneration

Also, unlike the generic drug example the reputations of some big name researchers are at stake here.
It wouldn't be a good look, would it. Research gets done at one of the world's most prestigious universities using public and donated money with the aim of helping you and me. The result of that research gets spun off into a private company which then accepts a whole lot of money so that it is never used to help you and me. I think they could say goodbye to their professorships (is that a word?). FX-322 works or it doesn't. That's the only thing that's going to decide whether we get it.

But the slogan "Support our troops" is well ingrained into the entire nation's heads after 17 years of the war on terror and tinnitus is the #1 service related disability. The image of a 22 year old that risked his life to fight for freedom getting disabled and tortured from this is something that needs to be promoted. Notice how you really NEVER see anything like what I just described.
"Government is the Entertainment division of the military-industrial complex."

FX-322 works or it doesn't.
They are claiming it did in this last round, and it certainly works in mice so I think it's safe to lean towards yes, right?

Now, how well it works is the real question to me.

It would be great if they could do the trials back to back and be more forthcoming with information.

Dear David - thank you for your nice email and sorry to hear about your hearing loss.

Frequency is working to develop a therapy to combat noise-induced hearing loss in this initial study. While we are still some time away from a commercially available treatment, we are working hard to move as quickly as possible to that outcome. The clinical trials will be conducted in 3 separate stages as explained by the National Institutes of Health, but the overall time frame will be dependent on the trial design. You may find further information on how trials are crafted and conducted here: https://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/about-studies

The cause of tinnitus is not clear in all cases, but this condition is almost always accompanied by hearing loss due to damaged cells within the inner ear. Because of this, regenerating hair cells may be helpful in patient suffering from tinnitus.

Also, in the meantime you can learn about existing clinical studies being performed around the world at the FDA website - here is a link: https://www.clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/results?term=hearing+loss&Search=Search

Please visit this link and enter your contact info to be part of Frequency's outreach efforts and keep people informed of our progress: http://frequencytx.com/contact/index.php
and any questions you have about Frequency's study should be sent directly to clinicaltrials@frequencytx.com

Is it better for these companies to be public or private?
Private. IP owned by governments is prone to being subject to biased scrutiny upon a change of leadership, governments are poor at recycling lessons learned from failed research (whereas liquidators are often rather effective) and private funding avenues are more diverse in risk apatite levels (Companies can be seen to fail and spin it as learning [space x] governments can't, not in the short / med term anyway)

In fact little innovation comes through governments for this reason; most 'government projects' are just government money pots that distribute risk among technical behemoths.

IMHO anyway :)

Let's hope Audion / Regain is different. They seem to be moving forward with a steady pace.

In the US, a public company doesn't mean it is owned, operated, or has anything to do with the government. It just means its shares can be traded on a public market instead of being limited to private investors (who are called "sophisticated investors"). Examples of public companies: Amazon, Apple, Facebook, Google, Tesla, etc... Transitioning from private to public happens through an Initial Public Offering (IPO).

Aha, of course! Thank you :)

The problem with going public is many times the company's founders find themselves spending all their time satisfying the shareholders, instead of doing what they did before going public.

Shouldn't people seeking cochlear implants be made aware of the potential of this drug and be advised to hold off on a decision until more data is released???

Imagine getting a cochlear implant and then finding out later you could have just gotten an injection of FX-322. I'd personally be pissed.

Are the stocks available for purchase?
No, they are offered privately to hedge funds and fund managers with specific "treats" that you would never get from an IPO or public traded stock many of which involve enormous yield potential, they mix and match prospective biotech as part of their risk management/prospecting, lots of money has been invested in CAR T therapy for instance, every broker dreams of the next big thing.

I'm in that boat right now. I'm holding off to see what happens, but I'm not so sure that is the best decision. Once you are a CI candidate you just get by in life. Words are difficult to understand. I can't talk on the phone anymore so I just use text. The longer I wait, the longer I forget what words sound like and the more training it's going to take to learn how to hear again. Plus we still aren't sure if people that are CI level will benefit from this drug. But... I'm holding out... Even if this works it's years away before we can go see a doctor and get an injection of FX-322.

It would be nice if people in your position could get early access through an open trial within the next year or so.

71 days till we hopefully have some news. This is right before my cake day, so it's gotta be good, right?!

I'd be happy with 5+ dB gain from multiple test subjects with significant NIHL... But hope for more! Who knows what multiple exposure might achieve even if we see a 1-3 dB gain?

I'd be interested to know what others on here would consider to be a good result at this point?

Otherwise I am glad at this to have some undisclosed measure of pre-confirmed success, but worry it will slip in the next phase...

A travesty of justice.
It's just the way the system is working right now and in my opinion it is more about a lack of societal priorities. There are single cars, like the Porsche 918 Spyder, that cost enough to push drugs into clinical trials. Instead of having empathy for suffering people, like helping them is a major priority, many very successful people take their spoils and spoil themselves.

Look at this wrist watch:

1 Million Dollars. SMH.

Truly a nation in Crisis.

Materialism and consumption gone mad.
A spiritual crisis I doubt we will come out of...

Praying for RB2014 and all sufferers... Hang tight folks.
