Hi, I woke up yesterday and my right ear is going crazy. It's like someone is constantly tapping a microphone 100 times a minute in my ear or a butterfly is in there flying around. I do not think it is normal tinnitus as this sound goes away if I put my finger in my ear (I can feel something clicking in there though) or I put my head under water.

It's similar to when your ears flutter to loud noise. But, mine has no trigger. It is instead rapidly fluttering 24/7. Can anyone help me understand what this is? I've already had to get used to normal tinnitus and now I feel I am at square one again. I've also been through a lot of stress lately.

Just woke up and it is a lot better today. But, I can hear the click coming from my nose instead. Is this some kind of sinus pressure?

Yes.
Lateral cartilages are moved past the bottom of your nasal septum. Just cartilage and bone rubbing - causing a fluttering sound. Should go completely away within a few days.

This could be tensor tympani syndrome that you are describing.

Although I am presently having renewed issues with this condition, I have been successfully treated for it in the past by Mr Gerald Brookes at the Harley Street ENT Clinic (with low doses of clonazepam). Hopefully, this approach will work this time around too. His details are available online.

Not many ENTs in the UK have expertise in this area but he does, though a private consultation is obviously expensive so you might need to bear this in mind.
