Getting Ridiculous Now

Yes I fully understand. This is no easy road nor is there an easy answer. If you have some savings, you might want to step back on the level of responsibilities at work and take a lower pay position?? I don't know really....... just trying to remember all the steps I took to finally break free of the real dark days.

I can't really step back, I own the company and it needs me to run it, everything is 100 times harder, even just the morning meetings are a killer now.
I have no idea what's going to happen now but thanks for the kind words.

Fair enough. This sure is a hard go huh?? I am waiting for my order of Er Long Zuo Ci Wan. A Chinese herbal remedy for tinnitus I heard about from a well trusted member here who has had great success with it lowering his tinnitus. I will try all kinds of things til someone finds a frikkin cure!! lol

Keep strong Jason. Make sure you get the sleep your body requires. Reach out to others here that can offer some good advice. @Michael Leigh has been very helpful, @glynis is a rock on here however is suffering a temporary setback at the moment, so many others who have tried various things. We all wish to see you cope better at least!!

Sure why not, unfortunatly though I really doubt there will be a cure for tinnitus and hearing loss. Damage to the cochlear synaptic regions is and more than likely will always be irreparable.
That's the hardest thing for me to come to terms with.

I actually believe we are very close. The problem is getting everything approved as a treatment and the length of time that takes. I am pretty sure they will find ways to make those hair cells regenerate very very soon. Here is an interesting post......... Check it out but ignore the please donate thing. I am not passing this link in hopes people donate unless your a billionaire!! Have a read.........

Deafness is about to be cured. Once they get that down pat, tinnitus will easily follow!!

just over 4 months in from noise induced tinnitus, hearing loss, vestibular damage, hyperacusis etc caused by 10 min exposure to 120db burglar alarm.

Month on month it has been getting worst and as I sit here right now the T is screaming in my left ear and getting louder in my right ear, My balance is off, I don't feel like myself, I cant think properly, cant plan, struggling to function, cant relax, cant sleep, the future I cant even begin to think about, I am 36, how can I deal with this until I'm 50, 60,70???

My wife was talking about going to see a show a Christmas and her sister wants to go to cinema next week for her sons birthday, I have tried to explain but they just don't understand, "why cant you go to the cinema, you have been 100s of times"

Absolutely ridiculous, this is like I have had a stroke ffs

My catastrophic T was also caused by an alarm for 15 minutes.
Sorry to disappoint you but most likely it gets progressively worse the T....the other stuff has a much better chance to get better. We must accept a life as a cripple now. People lose their jobs, their families and their lives over this crap.
I too had the same sleep cycle during the first year with my T...this was back in 2011.
Welcome to the club, nobody wants to belong to...

Dan are you somewhat habituated by now?
Is it any easier to cope?

I wasn't expecting it to get better and over the last 4 months it has only gotten worse, for the first month it was very slight but things still sounded odd. I even went on holiday and it didn't bother me much.

It was after a month that the vertigo started and the t got more intrusive, it's not a solid tone and it rides up and down over other sounds.

Do you have much hearing loss?? Things sound odd too you??

I had some sound distortion the first year - "S" sounds sounded really distorted...but that subsided 90%. I lost hearing in the upper frequencies - 8khz ++++ Also I had some vertigo but it was intermittent- try riding a bicycle to get your brain to compensate for the inner ear damage.

See I have no problems with understanding speech, people's voices sound loud and full of treble at times but that has subsided with hyperacusis, I my audiogram shows a 5db dip at 4K but apart from that I can hear 8k and beyond (up to 14k) on the crappy YouTube tests)
I can ride a bike, scooter, run etc with no issues, it's standing and turning quickly or standing up when I can feel the vertigo the most.
I hear most distortion when I try listening too music.

Really sorry to hear about your situation. I know how much it sucks. For sleep, have you tried a white noise machine or something similar? That really helps block out my T. For my case, rain sounds or or shower-like sounds help mask it.

I have tried yes but the t just rides on top of the sound, the only thing that really blocks it out is the shower when I am in it.

Mine doesn't spike after the shower. It goes up and down all the time depending what noise is about. Then it makes electrical discharge type noises, hissing, constant tones, ear dullness and fullness, it's fantastic.

I could understand if I couldn't hear, I can though and even the audiogram isn't terrible.

Happy Friday folks!

Yes, just a little................ lol

Yeah... I have noticed that most people that come here and then post success stories after 6 months or a year are able to easily mask their T. I know mine is far from the worst, but I'm unable to mask it and people don't understand how big of a difference that makes.

I'm sure it's even worse with severe hearing loss.

I think it depends a lot on what caused your t and hearing issues. For me a powerful alarm caused symptoms probably closer to blast damage. Obviously it's hard to know what its like for other people. I just find it odd that my hearing is pretty good apart from the t, distortion when listening to music etc etc so obviously it's far from right but I can still hear the cap squeal from electronics etc, if it wasn't for the ringing I could deal with everything else.

I always hated those alarms. So fuckin loud.

Unfortunately that is the main deterrent with these security devices. If you had a security device that tracked a burglar, and it zapped him with a laser or shot him, you would end up in jail! Make him go deaf or suffer tinnitus and you the man!! lol Crazy world...........

Yea or the engineer in my case!

Mine was closer to blast trauma as well. About 1-2 seconds in duration.

Did your T start instantly afterwards or was it more of a delayed onset?

What happened if I may ask??

I was exposed for a good 10 mins maybe 120bd alarm. It felt crazy loud but it was right in front of me so I think shock kicked in and I worked on the alarm to shut off the sounder, hence the damage now. I am amazed can hear at all.
My ears felt full after. They were ringing but it did reduce over the next week and I though it would pass, I didn't know anything about acoustic trauma at the time so didn't know to go to emergency room to get steroid treatment. The ringing did take time to come in. It didn't help that I went on holiday 4 weeks later and a 14 hour flight but I felt ok. The plane did sound very very loud, I actually thought it had a problem with the engines, I realised this was hyperacusis, Ears didn't feel 100% but I though 2 weeks on the beach would be good for me.

So between the alarm, flying, holiday, speed boats, jet skis, flight home. Lots of stress and damage on the ears.

Obviously all the damage was done with the alarm but everything else didn't help.

Well on a plus note for anyone reading this and maybe feeling the same, today has been a better day, I was busy with work and forced myself to get on with things. Many phone calls, meetings, lots to do, this evening I went to the gym with my buddy, the music was loud but I put my plugs in and got on with it. Good workout, heavy sets, worked back and shoulders then got home to a steak dinner and a couple of glasses of red wine lol

The gym is good for this shit, when you lift heavy the T gets lost.

Let's hope for some sleep tonight and a good day tomorrow.

I'm shattered.

I am just catching up on your tinnitus/hyperacusis experience here.

Is this the first time you can say you had a better day?

I agree with the gym workouts. Oh and the steak dinner....that is on our menu tomorrow.

Well like most here (and most in life in general) we have good days and bad days, today was a better day, no real reason why, I just pushed myself to function properly and I did :)
