Some current research suggests a link between gut bacteria, linked with processing nitrates, and migraines. Certain trigger foods have been found to cause this. After reading this my immediate attention was diverted to my own fluctuating tinnitus, and the fact we talk about foods spiking our T.

My diet contains a lot of processed meats and meat in general, so I suspect I most likely have plenty of the bacteria they are referring to. I wonder if there is any link between our gut bacteria and tinnitus spikes?

Check out the two links below, one being the source material and the other noting the relationship between migraines and tinnitus. I have many of the symptoms on the list in the second link which creates an interesting link:

Oh goody I have some probiotics handy right now.

I've also heard that an imbalance in gut bacteria can affect psychiatric health. I would need to find the article about that though. But that should be one clue that the gut does indeed influence the brain in more ways than one. I would not be surprised if it affected tinnitus.

Vegetarian, tinnitus for 2 years, classical and ocular migraine (since childhood), Raynaud's (since childhood) and glaucoma (since my 30's), but personally have never found any association of any food with any of the diagnoses. If only there were......

Yes. Gut health is very important. Matter of fact, most of our serotonin is in our gut. When that's out of shape, we become depressed and anxious. And we eat more food that is bad for our gut. I was prescribed antibiotics and that REALLY put my gut out of control. All of a sudden, my BM changed. I was depressed which really isn't like me. I'm diagnosed with anxiety which also isn't like me. The doctors are trying to give me drugs to help it but not actually stop it. So I took my own course. I work out a lot besides having heart problems. I eat my vitamins daily since I'm vegetarian. I take my probiotics to restore my gut bacteria and to prevent the growth of candida. And I'll do this for a year. I will be looking for improvement.

Oh and you'll develop suddenly intolerance and allergies to food if you don't keep that gut healthy. I can no longer drink coffee or eat soy/seafood because it makes me sick. It should go away in a year or so once you repopulate the bacteria in your intestines.
