I have intrusive tinnitus 24/7 and I am always looking for environments that masks my tinnitus or I am listening to (high frequency based) music etc. Hmm, I can't take a shower 24/7 :)

When I'm in a silent environment, I tend to "inconspicuously" crawl my hair to mask my tinnitus - for example when I have conversations with people.

At home, my girlfriend knows at once that I am struggling with the sounds in my head, when I am crawling my hair.

So I am really looking for a little machine /robot, that is somehow placed on my head, hangs under my hair, and does some circling moves, so strokes my hair. As of COVID-19, my long hair could hide that machine. I would preferably describe it somehow as a spider.

Maybe a hobbyist could build such a thing? I would pay a decent price.

I have been struggling for 11 months with my rapidly increased tinnitus and more and more I lose energy to handle my tinnitus. I fear to lose my relationship.

Please no other recommendations for hearing aids or maskers, I have tried them all.

Thanks.

Haha I also do this sometimes. I do little circles in my hair with one or two fingers. Sometimes near the temples or on the back of my head. Never did it before tinnitus. Now I feel slightly less insane knowing someone else does this to comfort themselves in silence. Props to you for admitting it.

I'd like to have this sort of device to do it for me as well lol.

@Toby1972, if your tinnitus is in your head and your auditory nerves are misfiring, you might get a good improvement with Nortriptyline.

Have a chat with your doctor.

Hmm, I did say please don't propose alternatives. An AD surely is not something that I will consider.

But thanks anyway.

Maybe someone knows an engineer or mini-machine manufacturer that can build this machine? I would pay accordingly.

Hi Glynis,

Is the Nortriptyline still working for you? I recall you mentioning it a while back. Very excited for you.

Did it eradicate tinnitus altogether?

If yes, how long did it take to go?

Dose?

Adverse reactions?

It's funny you mention this. I had the same idea running through my head just a few nights ago. I notice when I am rubbing my head, toweling it or anything similar it's gone. How nice would it be to have a head rubbing robot to bring relief at night.

I'm sure if you are motivated enough you could find someone to design one for you.

Sounds a bit like the tinnitus tapping cure or "Reddit cure". You can find YouTube videos about it. I've only found very limited temporary benefit from it, but whatever gives us some relief could be worth a try.
