Has Anyone Had Their Tinnitus Turn Into a High-Pitched Hissing?

Cause of Tinnitus
Loud noise
I initially had three tones: a low-pitched hum, a mid-pitched ringing, and a high-pitched hiss.

When I first got tinnitus 5 months ago, it was mainly the mid-pitched ringing. It seemed to come directly from my ears, and I noticed it was especially loud when I pressed my ears against pillows.

Now, it feels like the sound is in my brain. The mid and low-pitched tones have mostly faded, leaving only the high-pitched hiss. But the hiss no longer feels like it's coming from my ears; instead, it feels like the source is right behind my forehead. This shift happened gradually between months 2 and 5.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Yes, sometimes I still experience the high-pitched sound, but only at night. How did you get your tinnitus? Mine started after taking Amitriptyline.

Yes, I experience tones after spikes. Slight tones act as a kind of warning sign for me. For the most part, it's a high-frequency hiss, which I've gotten used to by now.

Yes, but "hiss" isn't quite the right word, nor is "ringing." It's more like the sound you might imagine if you could hear the power lines overhead—a very high-pitched electrical sound. It's not in the ears but in the brain.

Tinnitus can begin in the ears due to damage.

If the ears don't heal, it eventually becomes a brain issue; a maladaptation.
