From what I understand is they are neurologists that have extra schooling to in how the sound goes from the ear to the brain.

I was recommended to go see a neurologist today for tinnitus (long story) and I call up one place and they want $500. I can't afford that right now. I have no idea how how much a otoneurologist would cost.

Anyone been to one and if so, how much was it and was it helpful?

I've been to 3. Whether or not you should go depends on what is wrong with you. If it's just tinnitus, then no you shouldn't bother. They are ENTs who have extra training.

It's a shame these experts recommend expensive doctors who can't do anything! Maybe there are some who are willing to try something but I cant afford it. Maybe if I had insurance I would go just on a slim chance they could do something.

I've seen 3 neurotologists (they were my doctors for the AM101 trials). They were great doctors, and I wish one of them could be my doctor. They were very knowledgeable and skilled surgeons and were helpful with my questions about what tinnitus is, but as far as treatment or coping strategies, they are no different from what you can find here. If your tinnitus is just from noise, I don't think it would be worth it.

I have been to a neor, ENTs, dentist GP and non recommend anything first you have to get anxiety under control having fans on, turn on a bathroom water on T likes running water. Look into hearing aids and try to habituate im still working on that too also read this outlight has very good advice that's how I got my tips of handling it

we need a specialist who not only knows how ears relay sound to the brain but how the brain transmits sound to our ears!!!

i have also tried using an aromatherapy diffuser in my room at night btw. it makes the room smell nice and the noise distracts from T without keeping me awake.
