I read this article where chronic melatonin dosages each day enhanced the binding on the benzodiazepine site on the GABA receptor. The article is here: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/3668517
As some of you know, benzodiazepines can help lower tinnitus for some time but usually eventually stop working. With some people, they might even get tinnitus from chronic benzo usages or abrupt withdrawals from taking the medication.
It seems to me that if this works for some people that the melatonin would have to be taken either the same time the klonopin was swallowed or shortly before. (If the melatonin was sublingual I think the klonopin could be swallowed at the same time.) To me it seems the important thing is that the melatonin is in the system before and/or during the klonopin binding to the site. It is also my theory that if this works it would be ideal that the benzodiazepine and melatonin would be taken right before going to bed at the normal bedtime for the person because of the body clock and natural melatonin production.
If this works what concerns me is how long it would work for. I do not know nor do I know the melatonin dosage although it must be a safe dosage.
I'm going to post this video which may explain things on a very basic level on the benzodiazepine binding site on the GABA receptor:
I think I am going to do an experiment with it tonight and see what happens.
