Has Tinnitus Isolated You?

How did things get so bad?

It was really simple, everyone including doctors told me to live like everyone else and don't protect my hearing during "normal" activities, that the stories on the internet are only the minority of cases, that I'm too young (13 back then) and it's impossible that it's gonna be permanent. I listened to them and after 3 years it get worse and became easy to worsen further... and I'm here today on TinnitusTalk.

It all started after playing computer games with headphones so yeah, i don't think that it was a coincidence...

Really, if i would protect my hearing a little for example in school, have not sit under the bell, found quieter spots during the breaks then today everything would be different. At least delayed.

My T back then wasn't reactive at all, i didn't had hyperacusis so i didn't know i'm doing any harm to myself. And now it's too late, T is reactive, hyperacusis is bad, new tones, previous tones louder. Torture

You can trust only yourself and noone is an authority that you can trust in 100%, that's what I've learned.

What normal things did you do that led to your tinnitus getting so severe?

School (ringing bells, other kids / people shouting, alarms), using headphones, loud phone, barking dogs, I've loved fireworks and you know just "normal" things like door slamming, loud street, plates falling of the table etc. loud noise everywhere 24/7. It's a build up that after a certain level will show it's effect and it's not gonna be a pleasant one.

You probably had a case of hyperacusis on top of the tinnitus. Alarms I can see can spike tinnitus yeah. Headphones may be the big culprit why your tinnitus got worse over the years. I listened for 3 hours yesterday to white noise on headphones and tinnitus is much higher today. Gonna stop forever.

For the first 3 years I didn't feel anything, I wasn't thinking about the noise at all so I don't think so. It's here today yes (hyperacusis), but it was not present back then. First my tinnitus has started to get worse in 2014 and then hyperacusis has developed gradually down the line.

Snake, you are still young, there's probably still time to heal believe it or not. I am 43 and my tinnitus got better in 1.5 years after a major change in tone/intensity. I have had tinnitus almost my entire life but it wasn't the extreme kind where it is bothersome, it only became extremely loud and unbearable in the last year or so but it did get better after a while. Let's hope you either get better soon or a device like the Lenire will make life livable for you and me again so that we can go out and enjoy the world again!
