Have People Had Success with Stopping Tinnitus After Removing Their Ear Wax?

Hello

First of all I am new to these forums and I am sorry if this is in the wrong place or something.

I have 1 question about my tinnitus (got it since around 1st of march). I have been to the doctor, and he said I have a lot of ear-wax built up in my right ear which I think can be the reason why I have tinnitus. I want to know if people have had success with stopping tinnitus after removing their ear wax.

After the wax gets removed, your tinnitus will likely eventually fade. However, make sure the doctor does not use microsuction or syringing.

Many get T after doctors remove wax from their ears using microsuction or syringing. There is no reason to take that risk. Ask the doctor to remove the wax from your ears using manual tools. I think the name of one of the tools is curette. Another tool looks like a wire loop. Make sure to use special ear drops for two weeks prior to your appointment to soften the wax. Also make sure that the person cleaning your ears is a doctor who has a lot of experience (and not a nurse with little experience).

my cautionary note is that I would advise people with Tinnitus not to go near an Ear Hygienists' clinic when you have blocked ears...get some good ear drops and then get your local doctor to scrape out what he can.

If you have Tinnitus and undergo microsuction cleaning of your ears, you run a serious risk of inducing a condition I now know intimately as Hyperacisis and its not nice...even worse than Tinnitus I might add.

Its clear from my experience..that the substantial noise of the ear wax suction procedure, damages the ears nervous system....and I'm now left in a condition where loud or consistent sounds are distorted to the point its like listening to a rattly speaker...I have acoustic holes in my hearing range now so that human voices are more difficult to listen to...and most sounds appear different and even annoyingly so.

So my message is ..don't take a risk with microsuction...clearly..if you already have Tinnitus, the noise level from the suction process with create even more problems for you. Just don't do it!

Thanks mate, I have already been using ear drops for about 2 days now. So I am not advised to syringe it from the doctor?

Ask your doctor whether he or she will be able to use manual tools to do this job. You could also ask your family doctor.

Right23, I got tinnitus from an ear wax impaction. I did lots of research and I think it seems like for the majority it goes away once wax removed, I was just unlucky

Further to last- I even have a friend for whom this happened. She had the t for a month or so pre wax then it took a few weeks to fade away afterwards

I got mine removed manually which I think is the safest way for tinnitus although if the wax is on the actual eardrum it sometimes cannot be removed manually

It started when I used ear wax solution. It was before removal. Never went away and got worse at 6months for other reasons.

I developed much louder tinnitus due to ear wax impaction.
I had both ears syringed (one was only one squirt into the ear though, as I began to panic) and after a couple days, my tinnitus has faded down to a fairly low whistle in the left ear (the one "properly" syringed) and a low ring/whistle in the right (the one that only received one squirt of water.)
It is still a lot louder than my old baseline, which was so faint I barely ever noticed it, but I am grateful for the decrease and hopeful that it will continue to fade, as right now my ear is still recovering from the syringing/I am mildly sick.

@Rick Garner did a doctor confirm your T was caused by ear wax and ETD? I had a large amount wax and flew during a rough plane pressure descent. I'm wondering if the combination is causing my symptoms.

yes, Probably ear wax is the cause and once the ear wax is removed it should fade the following months.
