Have You Been on Antibiotics with Tinnitus?

Yes, 10 days on Dalacin (clindamycin), 300 mg x 2 a day for a tooth infection.

No effect on my T or H.

ciprofloxacillin gifted me with tinnitus

ive needed to use keflex and macrodantin since with no effects on my t either way
I have heard cipro with bad side effects.

I've started a 7 day treatment of Trimethoprim for a downstairs infection. (Not Sex related or anything too bad).

Over the years I've been prescribed these ones.

Amoxicillin
No side effects.

Ampicillin
No side effects.

Trimethoprim
I think this one spiked my T, and I was only taking it for 3 days! I can't know for sure though. It could have been a combination of infection and stress/anxiety that made my T worse. I don't think it has been listed as ototoxic.

Pivmecillinam/amdinocillin pivoxil
Probably no effect on T. I was given this one after Trimethoprim and I took it for nearly two weeks. Didn't seem to make any difference after Trimethoprim.

I have also used ear drops containing oxytetracyclin and polymyxin. These are apparently ototoxic, but as long as the ear drum is not perforated they should not be harmful.

Almost everything is ototoxic, but yeah it has very low ototoxicty reports

Dear Luke,

Since I have T and H I never had to take any Antibiotics... But if one day I would need them I would be very affraid because those drugs could increase my condition, which is already really not good...

But as I can see here, you received great advices from people on the Forum...

All the Best

I just took Amoxicillin this winter and it didnt affect my Tinnitus at all.
Also when I had my appendicitis plus peritonitis two years ago I was on lots of antibiotics (I cant remember which ones) and, fortunately, they also had absolutely no effect on my Tinnitus :)

All the best to you!! :)

Kanamycin gave me tinnitus. I was told to avoid all antibiotics that end in "mycin" but it seems so many end in "mycin". When I check the Internet it seems that almost all antibiotics give tinnitus to someone or other. What I am looking for is a list of antibiotics that do not cause tinnitus but that does not seem to exist. Different drugs affect different people. I have a need for antibiotics now for an infected tooth that is very painful. I am wondering if I took a drug that ends in "mycin" maybe there have been some changes to drugs since I got my tinnitus way back in 1969.

I searched on the Internet for antibiotic that does not cause tinnitus but such a list does not exist so far as I can see. I may just have to take some risks and see what happens.

No, dont do that yet! There is thread somewhere on TT about antibiotics, where people talk about which ones are ototoxic. Search this forum out first. There's plenty of info here about this topic.

Ask for cephalexin. It is a cephalosporin (cousin of penicillin) and is used for dental abscesses. Ive never had a problem with it, and havent read any accounts of it being an issue for anyone else here on the forum.

For a natural herbal approach, try golden seal (systemic antimicrobial), colloidal silver, oregano oil ...
