Cause of Tinnitus
Acoustic Trauma
For close to a week now, I have been hearing a second tone in the formerly "good ear." It is louder and higher pitched than the regular sound that I still hear in my bad ear. Unlike my regular sound, I don't hear this second tone 24/7. My guess is that I hear it about 6 hours a day... I wonder whether anyone has had such a second tone eventually going away for good.

I had crickets for a week. Then it left. I also had a very deep tone that lasted for hours at a time for two weeks. Also gone.

Where the crickets and the deep tone a second sound that you heard in addition to your main sound, or are you talking about tinnitus sound changing from one sound to another?

Over the past 9 months, my T had changed many, many times. It began as loud crickets.

Here I am talking about a second tone appearing, and the chances that it would go away. In my case, I had an acoustic trauma only in one ear (think of an earphone inserted only in one ear, although that is not what happened to me). It is strange that I would hear tinnitus in my good ear...

Several ear specialists told me that it is not unusual to hear tinnitus from the good ear. It's almost as if the brain becomes confused.

It would be especially possible if the ear/brain are working quite a bit to hear. Like when I wear earmuffs or even if I sleep on my good ear. It's as if my brain panics because it knows it should hear more, and then ringing starts up in my good ear.

Thank you for the information. Over the past month I spent very little time wearing hearing protection. And when I had to be outside, I would have an earplug only in my bad ear... I didn't think I needed to protect a healthy ear... Perhaps I was wrong (about that or about protecting my bad ear). No way to tell.

Yes i have for a few seconds most of the time...there was one time it (i wasnt getting much sleep around that time) started crazy in my left ear and it didnt stop..i went to sleep and it was gone the next day..amen to that

Occasionally the ringing will completely stop in my bad ear, and be immediately replaced by a tone in my good ear. It's both weird and annoying and luckily does not last more than a minute.

I get multi tones all the time. I hate to admit it. But it's usually not like a cricket and a ring. It's usually multiple rings. One high, medium and low. Sometimes I have a ring with a flute or the sound of a wind instrument. It varies. It comes and goes.

I've had many spikes that sound different, low, mid, high. All sounding different. I'll get fleeting t in my good ear sometimes. Fleeting t in my bad ear will scare the shit out of me.

I get them all the time. They go away, and it is the same tone every time, but this "visitor" tone (as I refer to it) happens often. Usually I hear it for a few minutes to a few hours before it goes away.

I like the term "visitor tone". :)

It looks like there is a chance that our visitor tones will keep visiting us... :(

I get some scary new sounds, occasionally, but they don't last long. I think it might be due to the limbic system, AKA the emotional brain, which is concerned about the sounds produced by tinnitus, trying to get us to pay even more attention to what it thinks is a problem, so it amplifies sounds that we have but normally don't hear....just a theory, of course, no proof it's correct, it just seems to make sense to me.

On the other hand, in the unlikely event that I get a new sound that stays, I will habituate to it, since that's the only choice there is at this point, until there's a cure.

Home your's clears up real soon, Bill.

Even 3rd. My tinnitus developed 4. Nov. 2017 after acoustic trauma. It has got really bad last week - couldn't sleep, constant noise. As a matter of fact, I'm having a really bad spike right now and have got no idea what to do..

It started off in my right ear with a bothersome ringing. I saw both ENT doc and a neurologist - the same old story, nothing we can do about it, you just have to learn to live with it. Pretty much like hearing a death sentence.

Right now I hear my right ear screaming, then I can feel a high-pitched cricket noise right in the centre of my head and my left "healthy ear" started to ring as well yesterday. It has been like this for a week now.

Just when I'm considering going to the hospital because it's got to the point when it's completely unbereable I get a headache and a high b. temperature (I don't think infusion therapy is a good idea when you might have a cold or flu).

Anyway, I wish you guys all well and hope you get rid of your tinnituses. I'm off to jump off a cliff or smth..

Hi Greg, sure. I went to a Judo class 22.Oct.2017 did a handstand, my left arm gave in and I fell on the back of my c. spine. Before that we did countless front rolls as a warm up. I did notice some ringing in my r. ear the following week

However, it must've been not bothersome at all because I remember working on my laptop no problem the 31st Oct - I was used to working in a complete silence to be able to focus. This is history now too I guess.

I started to notice my T a lot more after a loud Bday party when a girl shouted in my r. ear to tell me smth. Loud music in the club too, you know.

@Jiri With your c spine injury, you had neural connections between your somatosensory system and your auditory system. I would start off with x rays. If you don't have any older age conditions with spine/neck then PT adjustments should help. Control noise exposure. Here is a link that will explain your injury to your ears.
