Cause of Tinnitus
Too much musics, clubs, and videos games ^^ (my diagnosis)
Hi all,

Théo, french, 22 years

I just registered on this forum to share with you :)
I have tinnitus since I got up Saturday morning (February 25, 2017) and I still have them in my head right now! ^^
On Friday night I went to nightclub and I think this is what triggered my tinnitus (plus the fact that I listened a lot to music with headphones and that I play a lot with video games with a headset) .
My tinnitus is really very acute (like an old television that is still on when turned off).
For the moment I saw it "well" but it begins to make me crazy. I think I have two obsessions, the first is that it never stops and the second (the worst) and that it evolves in expanding.
I saw the doctor before yesterday, he told me that everything was going for the best with my ears but he still asked me to report to the ENT.

So, I just wanted to share with you because it's very recent for me and sometimes I have small panic attacks when I think about it (whereas usually I am not of the type to stress or to panic ^ ^ ).

See you later :)

Hi Theo, welcome to tinnitus talk.
It would be a good idea to stop using headphones/headset for good and not even listening at low volume, but it's up to you.
I have written an article about tinnitus that you might find helpful. You can access it by clicking on the link below.
Best of luck
Michael

My tinnitus is still there, what a hell.

Hi Theo,
Did you read my article? If so, try some of the suggestions. I advise you to print the positivity documents and keep them close by and to refer to them often. They are a form of counselling. Also, read some of the positivity posts on this website from members, and print the ones you like and refer to them too. It takes time for positivity to sink-in and to take effect.
Best of luck
Michael

Hello ! Thank man I had read your article ! It helped me alot
I went to an ENT today and he checked my ears , everything fine but T still ...
I dont know what to do ...

Hi,
T still here ^^ This weekend and today it is very well passed :) I thought very little tinnitus and Saturday I even give myself the right to go to the opera :p (the artists did not sing very loud and the orchestra was about twenty meters away). However, the time of the applause was a torture ^^
I think I'm getting used to it and I really try to get positive about it :) Even though I was quite disappointed when my ENT told me everything was normal ...
I would like to know how you approach the subject with your family or friends? I often feel that no one realizes what I endure (even if my parents do their best to find solutions) and being given that I do not have physical injuries everybody thinks me good shape. For me it's the most complicated side to manage right now ...

Take care :)

Hi !
T still here ^^

I dont know if someone read me but I find a good way to reduce tinnitus (works with mine) :
ignore them.
Joke hehe, I just speed walk in the forest and take time to breathe. I done it already 3 times and it was always a good moment !
Bed time still a torture and T woke me up in the middle of the night often.
ENT gave me some medics but I dont take them, I'm afraid that make my T worse. What do you think about that ?

Sorry for my bad english, I'm tired this evening

Take care :)

@Theo76

I recently got my T on February as well. My T was caused by lots of gaming on my headset and music. Gaming on Overwatch and listening to a lot of EDM. Like many, I'd suggest staying away from your headphones/headset. I think I made my T worse by listening to music while I felt like my T was gradually going away.

I turned my T from a slight ringing sound to crickets now. Sometimes I get a mixed variation of both during the day. You seem like a very positive person. A lot of people suggest excercise to keep your mind busy to avoid your T.

I keep a pair of memory foam earplugs in case things get to loud for me. There was a success story I read where a guy said he recovered from his T. Stay away from loud noises and let your ears rest. Get some earplugs if you can.

My family is very supportive about my T. My ENT and audiologist both said my ears and hearing are fine. If you're having trouble sleeping you can ask your doctor for a sleeping aid. I think sleep is crucial. I had insomnia for four days and I was a complete mess. Feel free to private message me. Another forum member helped me a lot recently and I want to do the same. Cheers!

Hi !
@sleepy : Hehe, I didnt play overwatch but I played CS GO a lot with very loud volume (2000h gaming in 18 months) and I think like you it didnt help ^^ I find myself very much in your narrative, we had the same habits (video games and music) and I really think that what makes us tinnitus is that we tired and damaged our ears by wear. I hope that everything will become normal with the patient. Be careful of you :)

@Michael Leigh : As you advised me, I made an appointment with a hearing specialist to make me tailor-made plugs that eliminate certain harmful frequencies and reduce the sound by about 25 to 30 decibels :)

What do you think of this type of device?
I have another small question ^^: twice this week, I had very tinny "pikes" during about 20 seconds and then calmed down. These pikes were really very strong and very acute. Do you know that type of thing?

Take care of you and stay strong ! :)

Protect your ears, avoid LOUD places and just remain calm, it shall be ok...

@Theo76 The earplugs that you have had made are good and will offer adequate protection. However, that does not mean you can stop being careful of loud sounds. Just be sensible. If sound is loud enough it can still cause damage even if you are wearing earplugs. The sound can pass through the Mastoid bone. This is the hard piece of bone behind each ear. Just be sensible and don't go around loud sounds and enjoy your life.

Hello Everyone

My T started 19th March. I had a bad infection and went to the doctors where they give me some antibiotics. The next day I woke up with a really blocked ear so put in some otex. I think I put in to much. Later that day the ringing stared and it hasnt stopped since.

I'm feeling very low and unsure about what to do. I have two young children and feel like I can't function properly.

Hi @Emma36 welcome to the forum,

An ear infection can cause tinnitus and in time it will calm down and go away. You might find the information in the link below on tinnitus helpful and I suggest you take a look
All the best

Thank you, Michael.

The information you sent was very informative and well written.

I am hoping the T is not from the Otex medication I put in and is from the ear infection.

I am finding each day very difficult, my two children and partner are the ones getting me through it.

Thank you for your kind comments Emma.
In the early stages tinnitus can cause stress and anxiety but this will settle. Try using sound enrichment at night using low level non intrusive music or preferably nature sounds. Also use this during the day. More is mentioned on the benefits of sound enrichment in the article that I have sent you. Although it's tempting, try not to "fully mask" the tinnitus with music (covering it up) as this isn't possible and will cause more stress. If you're finding it difficult to cope which is perfectly understandable, have a chat with your GP and something can be prescribed to help you not feel so down. You could try a herbal alternative. Kalms or St John's Wort. Both are good for stress.

Hope you start to feel better soon
Michael
