Cause of Tinnitus
unknown, might be ENT
Hello,
I've had tinnitus for one month, on scale 1-5 usually about 3, only left ear. Cause - unknown. I went to doctor, my ears seem to be ok so he gave me referral to otolaryngologist. It's quite hard for me because I'm a buddhist and I meditate every day in silence, then is clearly noticeable and frustrating. Actually it's always noticeable for me, as long as I fasten my attention to it - then obviously I'm making it worse. I tried only Stugeron 15 (cinnarizine) so far - doesn't help. Sometimes tapping my fingers at the back of my head helps, not always, I would say it helps me 1-2 out of 10 attempts. Also when I lie down on my left side of body my tinnitus sometimes fades.

At the top of my tinnitus, I sometimes also feel a vibration "in my ear", actually it's like between my ear and my neck, it's not pulsation (I mean according to my pulse - it's one steady "vibration') and it disappears when I move my neck, but not for long. This one I have only when I sit or lie still, very rarely when I move around. This one I've had for last few months.

I'm determined to get rid of it, I'm pretty sure it has something to do with nervous system, but who knows. Let's see what otolaryngologist says.

Welcome to the forum @dorje. It seems fair to say that your T is somatic in nature from your description. That is actually good because if you can trace down the exact cause, then you stand a good chance that your T will fade. It can be the muscle or the skeletal structure around the neck or your jaw. Have you checked if you have TMJ issue? Have you tried some massage around the neck or the head to shoulder area? It may also have to do with the vascular system around the neck area so changing in posture can affect the blood flow to the ears. Just some guess. You may need to try out some massage or the neck to see if it helps. Good luck. God bless.

No TMJ issue, nothing hurts, no difficulties with my jaw. But I agree, it might be something to do with the vascular system around the neck, which is not stiff but I feel some tensions around it, especially when I sit down on the floor doing my meditation. And when I do my yoga and exercises for it, tapping the back of my head afterwards then there is a better chance that T fades significantly. I remember one evening about 2 weeks ago, my T just exploded, it was pure 5 on my scale 1 to 5, and after some cry, exercises and tapping it went down to 1.

Don't place too much hope on otolaryngologist.

will provide you with some hope.
Have you experienced any improvement compared to three weeks ago?
Thank you for the link. I'm quite hopeful that I will get rid of it, or at least learn how to deal with that not to bother about is so much. I'm already doing progress. Not sure if I've experienced any improvement compared to three weeks ago, if so then just a little and at the moment it's like sometimes going away to level of 1, and then coming back. I'm 100% certain about one thing, the less attention I'm paying to it, the less bothering it becomes.

If it is not relentlessly at the same level, it is a good sign. Normally it takes months to notice improvement. Hopefully your T two months from now will be clearly quieter than it is now.
