Hello all
My name is mark. I am a 55 year old male in good shape. I have had T in my left ear for a week now. I believe it was from a previous job years ago and finally caught up to me. It just appeared out of the blue. I went to a ENT specialist. He did the usual exam. Looked in both ears. I actually watch it on his TV screen. It was all clean. Basically said it is T. It seems like my hearing is still the same other than this loud noise. Really driving me crazy. It is causing me some doubts and anxiety. I notice I am a bit tired and aggregated. Not off to a good start. My question is where do I start working on the condition. I don't want to be on any meds. What type of therapist do I see. Should I buy a self help book. I listen to white noise which helps. So far when I hit the pillow I'm out cold. Is there hope for this condition. Please help! Thank you
Mark

That's a good start. Otherwise Melatonin 6mg, ½-hour before bedtime is a good starting point. Can be used long-term. Few side-effects compared with real sleep aids.

Is there hope for this condition.

Not if you rely on your GP or local ENT to help you. But if you are willing to make an effort on your own, then there are clinical trials being held (currently) and in the near future. Have a look around on the site and you will find what you are looking for.

It may pass on its own of course. Protecting your hearing is therefore an important step to begin with.

Hi Mark, welcome to our site. To start have a look at "Treatments" forum here and "The Positivity Thread" under the "Support forum..

Does your body eventually habituate to tinnitus? What do most people do when the initial onset of T comes on. I know I can mask it but it feels like I'm wasting time.
