Cause of Tinnitus
Not sure, maybe pinched nerve
Hello

My name is Petr, and this is my first post here. I've been reading this forum since the day 1, my tinnitus started.

So how it all started?
Well, about two weeks ago, maybe it was Tuesday when I first noticed high pitched noise in my left ear, that would only activate when I am exposed to any loud environment (such are bars, or ppl talking too loud), even my own words would aggravate that noise in my ear. But when it would get quiet nothing I would hear. That made me to think if that happened after I screamed so loud and maybe I ruptured something in my ear.? But after reading more about it, it's quite bit impossible, because the muscle in your ear closes out when shouting.

A few days after I went to CVS and bought a Ear cleaning kit, and I cleaned my ears from wax, pretty nice big chunk came out our of my ear. That didn't help. I scheduled to see a Ear and Balance doctor, they did some hearing test, which came out perfect and they didn't see anything. However the doctor was using some kind of old school equipment. He prescribed me some water pills that supposes to drain the salt from your body along with magnesium. I took it maybe 3 times, and didn't see any changes to happen. I also red that the meds can cause ear ringing itself.

I started taking B12, Zinc and Ginkgo.
On Thursday I came down with a flu symptoms (body aches, headache, fever).. you name it.

I got over it pretty quickly, maybe on Sunday I felt much better physically.
The funny thing happen. I got ringing in my second (right) ear. But the ringing is constant not unlike in my left ear. High pitch noise, changes on movement of my jaw, if I open widely, tone gets louder.
I went to Sharp emergency care a day later. They couldn't find anything. They did a blood work on my minerals, calcium, kidney etc. and all of it came out perfectly.

My ear would't ring in the morning when I wake up at least for 2 hours but then it would all start. Today I went to Acupuncture specialist, where I got needles and good massage. My body was really tense. After the treatment my T is changing tones, sometimes it goes away for a sec or 2 and then comes back. Sometimes its much lower sound and then higher. Maybe the massage helped idk. I am seeing also ENT on friday, which I already know how that's gonna go.
And lastly I want to say that I don't have any other side effects, like dizziness or ear pain. Had some mild headaches but that could be anything.

That's quickly said, I hope everyone has a good mellow night.
Cheers

I just wanted to add that I downloaded this app on my iphone called Hear-Tinnitus. It's pretty great for a relieve. You can setup all the frequencies and start retraining your brain, so it will eventually will be filtered as a non-important sound. Give it a try :)

Hello Petr and welcome to the forum.

You are fairly new to this ringing and I will suggest that as long as you protect your hearing better, this may lower a great deal and possible even fade away. I always suggest seeing an ENT just in case as they may order extra tests just to rule out other possibilities, even if it's likely none will show up. Better to be safe than sorry later on.

Do your best not to stress over this because stress and anxiety will increase the noise. In time, if this continues, you will gradually just accept this and begin to ignore it some and get on living your life. You may want to try masking at night or even during the day in your free time. Many free downloads are available to play and never use earbuds or headphones. Just let it play by your bedside on a radio speaker and make sure it's lower than your tinnitus. This helps get used to the tinnitus in time. Depending on the sounds you hear, you must pick the right sound tracks. Crickets works for many, soft waterfalls helps, white noise works and even a fan at your bedside on low every night works wonders for some.

There really is no cure yet Petr but there are many great ideas people here on this forum may help you with. You must continue to live you life as best a you can and focus less on this ringing. Try to eat a better diet, lower in sodium, caffeine and fatty foods. Plenty of fresh fruits and veggies are great too. Try doing up some fresh veggie stir fries. They are quick and very nutritious. I personally use a supplement called Probiotics that you take 1 a day to help increase the good bacteria in your gut and intestines, that help draw the good nutrition from the foods you eat. When the body works better, it just feels better all around and it starts in your gut.

From time to time you may have a hard time sleeping. You can talk to your doctor for help with this or do as I do and use a supplement called Melatonin 3mg under the tongue about half hour before bed. It helps you nod off better.

Continue speaking with your doctor and specialists about everything. I know they can't do much but at least they can monitor all of this with you. Exercise a little more even if it means going for a walk around a few blocks every day. Stop and smell the roses and sights. Anything to distract you helps.

Hopefully this will just calm down and even disappear in time. You really are quite new to this and don't stress it.

Keep us posted my friend.

Mike

Hello Mike
Thank you for your kind respond:)
To be honest I am not stressing out at all with this, It was really pissing me off the first few days. But as I read many posts here I do not stress or get anxiety. The calmer we will remain the better we will accept it and get over it.
As food goes, I became vegan 6 months ago, I drink fresh green juices every single day, and do 50/50 (cooked/raw) organic produce for the most part.
The noise is great idea, my gf just purchased a water fountain that you can setup next to your bed on the desk. And honestly I don't have any problems to fall asleep with the T ringing.
Thanks a lot

Welcome to the forum. The above symptom seems to suggest that you may have TMJ issue which can cause your T. When you see the ENT, make sure you mention about this to see if he/she can check it out or refer you to a TMJ specialist.

Hi Petr,

Welcome to the board!

It sounds like you have already adopted a positive attitude and that will help you a lot. Hopefully, the ringing will totally go away for you or at least subside so low that you won't even notice it as you go about your daily routine.

To echo what billie48 said, add an oral surgeon to your list of doctors to see. He or she may shed some insight into the matter for you.

Sleep well, eat well, and live well! Everything else will fall into line!

About 6 months before My T started I had to go to the Dr because I couldn't hear out of my left ear. He cleaned it. there was large black goo that we assumed was dirt. The day before my T started, I cleaned my ears and there was goo, but just in my left ear again. I don't drive with the window open so why just the left ear. Two days ago I tried using earplugs. When I took them out, black goo was on the left one. I see that u had a chunk come out of your ear also. I'm wondering if this is not dirt but some ? (some bad thing slowly building up in the ear.)

Welcome to Tinnitus talk Petr.
I agree with @billie48,
That it sounds like TMJ as the jaw joint is right by your middle ear and inflamation or cracking of the jaw area can cause tinnitus for some ppeople...lots of love glynis

Hello friends
Thank you all of you for the support. To Sirjames it was just a simple ear wax that build up over time, but it wasn't the cause of the sensation.

Today I went to ENT, got my hearing tested. The results were good. My right ear is perfect, could hear all of the sounds they played and words that were said. In my left hear, there were maybe 2 frequencies that I didn't pick up, but still falls in the good category of hearing. Maybe it was because I was outside and listening to music before I got there, or I just had it for a while.

To glynis if it was jaw problem, what would cause the left ear the sound sensitivity?

The ENT doc prescribed me 60mg of Prednisone every morning, at once dosage for 7 days. I is kinda freaking me out, it seems like a high dosage for someone thats really lightweighted. Im afraid of the sideeffects too.
Today my T was pretty mild during the day, sometimes it's there and sometimes it's not, its like a switch that goes on and off. But at the evening it's there nonstop.
Good day guys

Then don't press it!
A ;inched nerve you said.., pinched where? Perhaps a chiropractor/ostheopath can hlp you in this?
I've had some neck pain from sleeping and my pillow that i finally replaced last week.
But that doesn't make sense why I have distorted hearing in my left ear, can't go to any loud places. The Tinnitus started a week later in my right ear. Not sure if it's related to the hearing distortion since it's all connected together.

3rd day on prednisone and I'm noticing the pitch noise a little bit less so far.

Hello
So I just wanted to highlight on the left ear, where I hear some sounds that are not comfortable if it has something to do with my ear being itchy often times. It would feel like it's itchy from the inside and I would just stick my finger in the ear and start rubbing it to the point it would relieve me, along making those funny noises from your throat, like you wanna scratch yourself from the inside of your neck lol. It makes me wonder if I somehow damaged my ear?
I've had this checked like a year ago or two, and the doc didn't see anything in it. I also get some seasonal allergies

it could be like an inner or middle ear semi infection, but dont worry about it.
i have had that itchy annoying feeling in my ear many times since onset, and it subsides or settles.

I quit prednisone after the 5th day. Didn't complete the schedule of taking those, because of side effects. Some say it's not a good idea to quit them cold turkey. I wasn't told by the doctor to tapper off. It was straight 60mg between 8-9am for 7 days.

I am experiencing some side effects 2 days later, as Wednsday was my last day taking them. Should I be worried or 5 days is no long enough and it will just pass?

Tapering is always best reducing 5mg every 3-4 days.
As you stopped 2 days ago the withdrawals kick in about 24-48 hours from the last dose and over the 48 hours following that they start to ease.

I take them due to asthma but 40mg for 5-7 days any longer than that then a taper is done.
Have a chat to your doctor and he will advise you if you might be better 're starting them at a lower dose to taper or just let the withdrawals pass .......lots of love glynis

Yea those side effects were nasty. Lasted about 4,5 days. Now it's gone finally. If I don't have to take this drug again I won't. It's hell.

Anyway. Today my T is barely notecible at all. I feel like it's almost not there.

And my H in the left ear can tolerate the sounds I would hate much better too. Today is a good day..

I hope everyone is doing well

Its been a while and I thought that I could give a report on how I do now..
Well, I must say that I completely healed from my Hyperacusis in my left ear.
And Tinnitus is almost gone from my right ear as well. It is very mild, and happens when Im too tired or hangover. But for the most part its almost gone too.
Let me know if any questions what I do or how I did it
