Cause of Tinnitus
Head trauma
Hi, I'm Pierre, close to 40, living in France.

Following a head trauma 2 years ago, I progressively started to suffer from tinnitus in my right ear from time to time. Didn't really take notice, mentioned it to my doctor who said it was "normal" and nothing much could be done.

However 6 months ago, my tinnitus became permanent, 24/24. Went to see my doctor again, did a hearing test with an ear specialist, took meds for a month... no improvement.

Since it started to drive me really tired (very hard to fall asleep, impossible to go back to sleep in the middle of the night), I turned to meditation / sophrology etc. (with an app) in order to try and better cope with this. Things improved slightly to the extent that I am now starting to accept this potentially permanent condition.

At the same time, the scientist / engineer in me was really frustrated with the lack of cures. As a result, I have been reading all the research I could about habituation theories, and I have spent several hundred hours developing an app to implement them, and test them on myself. It's starting to work. I'm currently fine tuning parameters, and will probably do a beta test at some point if someone's interested. What came out of this negative experience is that the brain / ear is fascinating, at least... My strategy is to find something positive in this otherwise stressful situation!

Your doctor is a normal idiot.

There are medicines in clinical trials that will probably help us tremendously

SAME HERE FREN!!!!!!

Forget habituation for now, if it happens it will happen. It's more of just getting used to it. In the meantime, use the frustrated engineer/scientist in you to research more and look into trying to actually heal yourself.

I highly recommend that you go and try something called curcumin and or turmeric supplements, and see if that helps. If you do, take really high doses.

Hi, thanks, I will try this for sure and report back! We're using curcumin already almost on a daily basis :)

Yep, in that respect I have built a prototype of an app which I've been using for the last few weeks with significant improvements. Hoping to see some further success, but it gave me at last some sort of confidence in my ability to control my own destiny, if you see what I mean ^^
