Ok so I need some help T people!!

I am a member here and have been since the onset of my T a few months ago, since then I haven't stuck anything (including drops as I think this was a cause of thd initial onset) in my ears to remove wax since!

I've just gotten home from work and I attempted to wipe some wax away from my left ear (worst T ear) and I think I have pushes it further in and now my left ear is completely blocked! I mean I can not hear a thing and my t is absolutely unbearable!

I don't know what to do!
I have read so many people on here got there T from ear syringing or suctioning or it made there existing t worse!

I think I'm going to try som olive oil drops, but I seriously doubt it will help get this lot out, it completely blocked. I know If I co to the doc they are going to suggest syringing or suctioning and I really really don't want to do that.

Does anyone have any advice? Please help

Thank you all so much

I don't think there is any way to remove impacted ear wax except by syringing, suction vacuum, or an ear picking tool, or is there?
If I were to choose between the lesser evils, I would pick water syringing.

I know when my young daughter goes to the ENT they have a special tool that looks like teeny tiny pliers to pick the wax out with - maybe they could use something like that?

I am sorry to read your post tho. Something similar happened to me recently - I got some water in my ear whilst showering and I stuck my finger in my ear to wiggle it and try and dislodge the water. I must have pushed some wax down into my ear and it blocked my ear completely. My T was unbearable and I almost had a panic attack.

Thankfully it unblocked pretty soon (which the help of a cotton bud which I know is a big no-no) but it was terrifying and horrible while it was blocked.

Any change yet?

Thanks for the advice! Really helpful:)

I went to the doctor and she had a look and said it is so badly impacted with wax that they can not see the ear drum.

She suggested waxsol or olive oil for do e days straight. She is not a fan of syringing and doesn't recommend it, but if worst comes to worse go to ENT and have them lightly suction remove wax.

But! As I was eating dinner a loud pop went off in my ear and it unblocked! I think movement of the jaw move the peice that was stuck together.

But, it doesn't diminish the fact that the wax is still in the war canal!

I'm wondering if I should still do the olive oil drops for a few days? I always get paranoid about putting August in my ear as the reason I believe I got (or bought tinnitus to my attention) was three months ago when I used waxsol drips:(

@attheedgeofscience what is your opinion if you don't mind giving? :) I'd really appreciate :)

I am not a doctor... and even if I was, I would not be able to offer advice, because I have not seen your specific case of earwax blockage.

In general terms I am not a fan of either "syringing the ears", ear irrigation, or home-style remedies such as olive oil drops. The first two have the potential to damage the ear, and the last one (= olive drops) sets up an environment contrary to the natural ecosystem of the outer/middle ear; the ear canal should be maintained in dry state at all times. When moisture is introduced into the ear canal (especially after a shower) that's when you have the perfect set-up for a potential ear infection (ie. moisture + warmth). So I do not really recommend any of the above solutions that the medical profession uses.

Here is what a non-medical person with a finance background would do:

I would go see an ENT. I would ask him/her to remove the earwax with pliers or whatever mechanical instrument the doctor has at his or her disposal. When the exercise is over there may well be some remaining wax stuck in there. In that case, I would ask the doctor to gently swipe my ear canal clean with a small piece of sponge/foam type material soaked in some type of liquid (perhaps just hot water). And then you should be on your way again...

Thanks for the reply!

You have some excellent points there!

It's makes me wonder, back in the cave days, what someone would so if they had a blocked ear! Lol

I have an ENT apt Friday so ill get him to have a look then.

Thanks for replying :)

Hi @Dr. Nagler

I don't mean to trouble you, but I was wondering what your thoughts are on use of olive oil to remove wax? Or what your suggestion night be?

Apologies for pulling you into this thread, just wondering what your thoughts on the safest option would be? :)

Many many thanks

I get blocked ears ,and have a daily balance issue ,I'm just going to try Dymista decongestant spray ,as someone said after several try's at different thing. This spray unblocked his ,and it's never came back .Think putting anything in ears can give even more trouble so I avoid it ,always have .think allergies are the biggest culprit for blocked ears and T ,well in my case at least .Only ever had syringed once prior to neck op ,couple years ago ,but had balance year prior to op ,so the syringing didn't harm me back then ,but I'd never willingly have it done without hesitation .
I listen to all who have it done ,and how it was done ,I agree if done Correctly your be fine ,to anyone planning to getting this done in near future .im always erring on caution side when it comes down to my ears ,and having this T going on .

Hi @Dr. Nagler

The safest option at this point in time by far is to see an ENT as soon as possible. He will be able to use fine instruments to remove the impacted cerumen under direct vision. Do not do anything else until then. No oil. Nothing.

Oh, one other thing. The trick to getting an appointment immediately with an ENT is to tell the appointment secretary that you have developed sudden hearing loss in one ear (which is true) and that you are worried about it (which is also true). Do not mention anything about the wax until you are face-to-face with the doc.

Stacey, if it is a while before you can get to see a specialist ENT, you can also ask Dr. Charlie for opinion in this same Introduce Yourself forum. He is a retired ENT. But seeing an ENT is your top priority.
