Cause of Tinnitus
front row indoor concert-in front of speaker
Found your forum and I don't know, hoping for hope, I guess. I'm in this condition for about a month, sometimes I think it's getting better, but lately around 5-6pm it seems louder than ever. I have an appt. for May 4 at an ENT clinic.

I think I got it at a concert, we were in first row and a speaker was aimed badly at me and it was really painful. I remember the buzzing getting in the car after, though that wasn't the first time that's ever happened but not for a long, long time. Then after that I put on headphones and plugged in the cord and it blasted accidentally. Those two things seem to have been it, can't think of what else, so..

We shall see. Thanks for letting me in!

@Kell

Welcome here.:welcomesignanimation:

My tinnitus seems to do the same as yours. Right around this time of the day, 6:00 or 7:00, it gets pitchier. I think it may be due to being tired. I am an early to bed early to rise person and I start to feel drowsy earlier than most. Thankfully the days are getting longer and I am "shamed" into staying up past 9:00, lol!

@Kell
Welcome to this wonderful forum and sorry to hear about your tinnitus.
My tinnitus seems to get a little louder in the evenings, I think this is fairly common. May have to do with becoming tired. I know my tinnitus is affected by my sleep cycle and can do all manor of strange things overnight depending on when I wake.
Seeing an ENT really is the first step. You will most likely be referred for a hearing test. If you have hearing loss, then you might consider wearing hearing aids.
However, a lot of us find we have no significant hearing loss, but do have it in the higher frequencies beyond the hearing test limits.
Stay in touch here, it's a wonderful forum with lots of supportive and amazing people.

Kell, if it gets bothersome you can do what's called masking. Listen to rain falling or some type of nature sound just below the level of your T. You still want to be able to hear your T. That will help ease your nerves when the T gets on them. No matter what happens you'll get better at this.

Search for posts by Michael Leigh for some great tips.

Thanks everybody, boy I sure hate this thing... got in a hearing test today on a cancellation and went -- seems I have exactly what you say above Samantha - I would've said I have no hearing loss but he said I do have some at higher frequencies.. and this is probably causing it. Was discouraged to be told that it probably won't just go away.. I'm hoping otherwise.. :(

Stay as positive as you can Kell. Things will get better with time no matter what.

He told me these things aggravate it: Caffeine (boo), Nicotine (meh), Alcohol (boo) and Stress - well, I just lost my job of 10 years a week and a half ago - and I'm 62 years old - and a web designer :whistle: -- so yes - stress. This morning I lay in bed and .... silence.. I refused to get out of bed or move as long as I could to enjoy it. It was sooo light, it was amazing. I knew it would probably come back once I got up and moving and yes it did - but it was very encouraging and wonderful just hearing NOTHING for 15 minutes..

@Kell,
Sorry to hear you lost your job and you must be emotionally stressed.
Lovely to wake up to silence for a few minutes and hope you get more quieter times.
Have a lovely weekend .
Love glynis
