I have not tried it myself yet. I was able to have one done by an audioligist.

I'm in the US. My test went up to 15kHz. It was done as part of my tinnitus consultation at a local medical school. I did have to request it. I don't think it was a standard part of the consultation. I asked for it because I had measured the frequency of my tinnitus at about 13.5 kHz, so I was curious if I really had a hearing loss there. The test showed that I did have a loss in the 12.5-14 kHz range, but I had to ask, "How do you know if it is a true hearing loss or if the tinnitus (perhaps from some other origin) is just masking external sound at those frequencies? The audiologist said, "In truth, we really don't know."

Yes, I've wondered that question too. They can play the tones as 'warble tones' rather than straight pure-tone to get around this. I dont know if it gets around it completely though.

Really Interesting to know!! I want a test for upper frequencies too.

@Louise: since getting tinnitus 10 months ago I had probably 5 hearing tests. The tinnitus kept increasing but the hearing is not deteriorating. However, the audiogram stops at 8 kHz. This happened both with private ents and NHS. I learned about high frequency hearing loss in this forum. I asked for a high frequency test at the hospital. My ENT told me they don't test high frequencies because the readings can be dubious, hard to interpret and misleading. He was suggesting that it is best not to test those frequencies above 8 kHz. Any opinion?

I ended up having one done as part of screening me for a University trial. I cant now remember what it said. I guess the only comment I have is what do you do once you find out about the hearing loss in the higher frequencies? Would it aid in finding something to help the Tinnitus?

It could explain increases in tinnitus in case one sees that hearing is deteriorating at the high frequencies. Other than that I am not sure
