Hi,
Oh happy day! Tinnitus is back after a pretty long absence. I used to tell it to go play on the freeway. When it eventually disappeared, I hoped someone had run it over and I was free.
I've had bouts for much of my life, but nothing that caused me to gnash my teeth and cry until 2004. I had just moved to a new city and had a lot of unconscious stress. But I also had a bad attack of TMJ, which I believe started the terrible low rumbling in my left ear and a sense of fullness in the ear, as if I had stuck balls of cotton inside. Obviously, washing out the ear did nothing.
Within 10 months or so, after physical therapy for the TMJ, the noise went away.
But in April this year it began again. Was it from hypothyroidism, since I had my thyroid removed in March? Was it from body tension invoking TMJ again and its side kick tinnitus. I just do not know. But it is here in very loud rumbling power. Unlike the earlier time, this shifts from ear to ear. Isn't that strange? My jaw is sore, so I wear a mouth guard.
But boy oh boy. It seems like it is always something. I have hearing aids because I need them, but now perhaps they are not working at full capacity, having to compete with the stampede of cattle in my head, the rumbling that resembles the background on Star Trek- Next Generation when they had scenes on the ship. Remember that rumbling? It is just like that but LOUD.
I stopped appreciating the silence in my head, taking it for granted. Now it is gone.
