How Did People Cope with Tinnitus in the Olden Days?

I don't have to tell anyone that we have a very serious health care crisis. There are other health problems out there to deal with. I mentioned in my previous post my veteran dad and relatives without T. However, they were lucky. Tinnitus is the number one disability of veterans now.

That alone is one thing we have going for us for attention from the medical community. It appears from the news that veteran's are getting more and more well deserved attention in the area of medical care. I haven't read anything like this, but vets with PTSD could have Tinnitus as well.

If this hijacked the OP's question, sorry. My response to the OP is that there weren't as many "snowflakes" in the old days. People were tougher. A generation or so before us had people up at sunrise working their ass off all day until bedtime just to survive. My grandfather survived through the "Great Depression" quite well. He was a very hard worker. They were distracted from T if they had it.

If my condition improved, I know my mood would change.
Understandable. I wake up every morning with screaming tinnitus especially my left ear. It does make a person very irritable. Sometimes diazepam or clonazepam plus maybe gabapentin can help at least with the anxiety the noise causes.

I was thinking how I probably would not be here anymore if it wasn't for some modern inventions like my tablet which I use to access masking apps on the internet or the pharmaceuticals which saved me when I was unable to sleep for weeks.

How did people with tinnitus cope in earlier times before any such help existed?
Probably not that differently to now seeing as there's very little that actually helps most people!

There was probably less tinnitus in the olden days - less noise exposure, fewer ototoxic meds, no cotton buds:unsure:.

I am going to see about that.

I think I just had an anxiety attack 30 min ago but I can't confirm it (yet?).
