How I Overcame My Tinnitus, and You Can Too

I've had tinnitus for a number of years. At first I thought I was going to go crazy and had thoughts of committing suicide, but now it doesn't bother me. In fact I've had days where I don't even notice it.

Here's what I did to overcome my tinnitus:

1. First, I got a white noise generator to take my focus off my tinnitus. You can purchase a white noise generator at Amazon or Walmart, or you can get a free white noise app for your computer, tablet, or cell phone by downloading one of the apps at https://www.tmsoft.com/white-noise-player , or by Googling "free white noise app."

I played the white noise during the day and at night to help me sleep. Now, I just play it at night because I like the soothing wind noise.

2. I order to lessen the effect tinnitus was having on my emotions I watched this YouTube video: . After I did this technique a couple of times, my emotions went from a state of panic to "It's okay. I think I can handle this."

I've even used this tapping technique to cure my fear of flying, and a number of other fears I had. It's amazing how well and how quickly it works.

3. When it comes to tinnitus, it's not the tinnitus itself that's casing you to panic, it's the THOUGHT about the tinnitus that's causing it. Example: A teenager will feel happy when playing rap music, where an older person may feel completely annoyed. Same music, different response.

In order to change the response you have to your tinnitus you have to change your thoughts about it.

When you feel panicked or helpless, notice what you're telling yourself: "This is driving me nuts." "I'll never be able to sleep." "I just want to die." etc., etc., etc.

First, change the tone of the voice in your head to something that sounds ridiculous like a high pitched Mickey Mouse voice or Goofy's voice, then make the voice fade away into the distance.

Do this a couple of times until you feel less panicked and more relaxed. If you don't have the thought, you won't feel the emotion.

4. Finally here are some resources that have helped me:

Hypnotherapy For Treating Hypnosis (). This wonderfully soothing and relaxing video will help you lessen the effects of tinnitus using hypnosis. I played it after I woke up in the morning until my tinnitus no longer bothered me.

You can download the audio portion of this video to an MP3 player, computer, or tablet by using this free YouTube to MP3 converter:

5. Lastly, everyone keeps telling me that tinnitus is not curable. I don't believe it, so I'm currently using this healing MP3 audio I purchased from Amazon to see if I can completely rid myself of my tinnitus: https://www.amazon.com/Ease-Being-Meditations-Centering-Healing/dp/B00104IRXC/ref=sr_1_1 I listen to the track Allowing: A Healing Meditation after I eat lunch.

Don't give up hope. You CAN overcome your tinnitus. If I did it, then you can too.

Peace,

Brian

Yes, I totally agree with you.
It seems so many people are looking for a "cure".
People, there is not a magic pill, a potion, or any other get rid of it in a day options out there. On the other hand, people that continue to say there is no "cure" need to be informed, before spreading such falsehoods.
If you're objective is to eliminate tinnitus 100%, that will not happen. Each person will and does experience it sometime in their life when presented in a certain situation. Most issues I have seen in my short 2 year direct experience, have meaning.

What works for one will not work for others, it's a trial and error journey. I have seen my T ebb & flow, rage, quiet, pulsitate, and every imaginable thing. What I typically don't do is give up for more than a week or so. It will calm down.

Do all the free and natural healing methods. It costs nothing and you may be surprised at the results, I know I have been.

Best to everyone in this journey. We are in this together and we will get through it together.

@dfw, couldn't agree more! -- I've recently been experimenting with modified intermittent fasting, and the preliminary results have given me my first real sense of hope since my severe tinnitus/hyperacusis odyssey started over six months ago. -- Best!

Same here. I have been fasting for two 36-hour periods every week (Mondays and Thursdays). How often (and for how long each time) have you been fasting?

Hi @Bill Bauer, I'm doing a quite a bit of experimenting with this, based on new things I continue to read and my actual experience. I'm sort of settling into daily 16-hour fasting periods, and will likely add a couple of weekly 24-hour fasting periods around that.

When I say "modified", I'm looking at including things like apple cider vinegar drinks (w/ some added cinnamon), added sodium (Himalayan Salt), added potassium (cream of tartar), green tea, various kinds of green drinks (such as wheat grass powder juice) lemon and/or lime juice, and perhaps some bone broth on occasion.

It makes sense to me that this could help tinnitus, as intermittent fasting (IF) improves insulin sensitivity, and tinnitus is VERY responsive to blood sugar levels. IF also increases the secretion of HGH (human growth hormone), and apparently stimulate stem cell activity as well.

The first week I started, I noticed my tinnitus would actually increase the longer I went into it. But then it didn't increase so much, and then not at all. And when I did eat, it actually seemed to go down. After I went 36 hours on one occasion, I noticed the "texture" of my tinnitus went from a jagged, sharp screeching, to a softer tone. The volume may have been only slightly reduced, but the change in texture actually allowed me to sleep two nights in a row with out masking sounds.

Bill, I found your question to me interesting, because when I first started noticing some of these benefits, I thought of you as the one on this board who would probably be most interested in hearing about my preliminary success, and possibly pursuing it yourself.

I believe that we are on the cusp of a new age which has been called the Millennial Reign of Christ, in which people won't die, and I'm assuming that we won't have any diseases. I read this from Revelation ch 20. Most Christians may disagree with me but I think this will come from perfect cures for all diseases, age-reversal technology, and life-extension technology. However, if I die before this comes I believe I will be in Hades with the rest of the dead and then later be resurrected into eternal life and live on Earth in the New Jerusalem for all eternity and live forever and eat of the Tree of Life. That's what gives me great strength to not fall into depression and despair. I believe this with all of my mind, heart, and soul. I'm pretty sure that here is no habituation technique or hypno-therapy that can top that.

Glad to hear your only problem is tinnitus and you over came it successfuly, Glad to hear you are also not bothered by hearing loss , or possibly hyperacusis that is painful. As I see this is your first post on the forum.

I noticed that too! Normally, I don't eat anything sweet (with the exception of berries). The handful of times when I went against this rule, I couldn't control myself and had large portions. I definitely noticed T getting louder and more intense afterwards.

I read somewhere authoritative that when the body senses that food is scarce, it changes its focus from producing new cells to taking care of the existing cells.

It is certainly a good idea to eat only during 8 hours each day. I found that my craving for food is easier to resist when I don't eat throughout the day (beginning in the morning; and after that it is easy to just sleep one more night without eating, and eat the next morning) than if I eat something earlier that day.

My T is louder when I wake up at the end of a 36-hour fast. However, it is a minor fluctuation, and it is temporary. I am glad to hear that your T reaction had disappeared, hopefully eventually this will happen to me too.

Thank you for sharing your experiences here. I wanted to begin fasting for a long time. I have been fasting for only a couple of months now.

Bill, you may want to check out THIS POST. It might tie in with your own experiences.

I think the following very interesting article would also be good for anyone with tinnitus to consider...

Protecting Against Glycation and High Blood Sugar with Benfotiamine
  • Advanced glycation end products (AGEs) are produced in most tissues exposed to elevated blood sugar levels, and even in tissues exposed to normal blood sugar for a long enough time.

  • Advanced glycation end products induce oxidative stress and inflammation, and are responsible for a large amount of tissue damage and dysfunction in diabetic patients. They are increasingly being recognized as harmful in non-diabetic people as well.

Keto group that I belong to recommends potassium citrate (powder).

I think I might do another fast, maybe a week or so. I've done quite a few in the past, but I'm not sure that I can handle one now.

After a recent worsening, unfortunately all the addictions have come back, I start relying on alcohol and drugs to sleep, also eating mass quantities of food for comfort has been a issue, i feel I can't stop. I can be stuffed full and just continue eating, almost like a nervous habit. I've put on 20 pounds in the two and a half months following my worsening. Having a tough time keeping anything under control. It seems everything goes out the window with T like this, I reach for anything of comfort even if I know in the long term it will hurt me. This isn't me, I feel like I'm having my strings pulled and I'm out of control.

I'm normally extremely disaplined when it comes to anything really, but with my head screaming and no sleep, I find it hard to muster up strength to do anything tough these days.

On the other hand, I'm feeling desperate, I believe in fasting, it's helped me heal in the past, maybe I will see some results again this time.

I've heard only a few members mention fasting as a method of healing, I'm not quite sure why.

Anyone else interested in experiencing with fasting as a way to reduce tinnitus and better their overall health?
