I've had tinnitus for a number of years. At first I thought I was going to go crazy and had thoughts of committing suicide, but now it doesn't bother me. In fact I've had days where I don't even notice it.
Here's what I did to overcome my tinnitus:
1. First, I got a white noise generator to take my focus off my tinnitus. You can purchase a white noise generator at Amazon or Walmart, or you can get a free white noise app for your computer, tablet, or cell phone by downloading one of the apps at https://www.tmsoft.com/white-noise-player , or by Googling "free white noise app."
I played the white noise during the day and at night to help me sleep. Now, I just play it at night because I like the soothing wind noise.
2. I order to lessen the effect tinnitus was having on my emotions I watched this YouTube video: . After I did this technique a couple of times, my emotions went from a state of panic to "It's okay. I think I can handle this."
I've even used this tapping technique to cure my fear of flying, and a number of other fears I had. It's amazing how well and how quickly it works.
3. When it comes to tinnitus, it's not the tinnitus itself that's casing you to panic, it's the THOUGHT about the tinnitus that's causing it. Example: A teenager will feel happy when playing rap music, where an older person may feel completely annoyed. Same music, different response.
In order to change the response you have to your tinnitus you have to change your thoughts about it.
When you feel panicked or helpless, notice what you're telling yourself: "This is driving me nuts." "I'll never be able to sleep." "I just want to die." etc., etc., etc.
First, change the tone of the voice in your head to something that sounds ridiculous like a high pitched Mickey Mouse voice or Goofy's voice, then make the voice fade away into the distance.
Do this a couple of times until you feel less panicked and more relaxed. If you don't have the thought, you won't feel the emotion.
4. Finally here are some resources that have helped me:
Hypnotherapy For Treating Hypnosis (). This wonderfully soothing and relaxing video will help you lessen the effects of tinnitus using hypnosis. I played it after I woke up in the morning until my tinnitus no longer bothered me.
You can download the audio portion of this video to an MP3 player, computer, or tablet by using this free YouTube to MP3 converter:
5. Lastly, everyone keeps telling me that tinnitus is not curable. I don't believe it, so I'm currently using this healing MP3 audio I purchased from Amazon to see if I can completely rid myself of my tinnitus: https://www.amazon.com/Ease-Being-Meditations-Centering-Healing/dp/B00104IRXC/ref=sr_1_1 I listen to the track Allowing: A Healing Meditation after I eat lunch.
Don't give up hope. You CAN overcome your tinnitus. If I did it, then you can too.
Peace,
Brian
