I've spent a lot of time in this forum today and gotten good responses.

But am I spending too much time? Am I obsessing?

How much attention should one expend on tinnitus?

I am on daily when not working or in therapy.
Alot of people are on here daily and no i dont think you're obsessing.
I think you're reaching out and that is healthy

Thanks

I'm trying not to obsess but it's difficult because it's so new

Glad this forum is here

I have spent too much time on it, I'm 10 months in and at this point there's really nothing more I need to know. Too much focus on it can delay the habituation process. The success stories are best, for me, at this point.

@Tom71
I don't think it's unusual when "t" first hits to go on the internet and start spending hours looking for answers. I know I did. It became confusing, informative, or frightening, depending on where I landed. I finally decided to pick one forum as a source for all my questions and information-gathering, and finally found this one. If I have a question, usually someone here can answer it, or provide links to credible sources. There are some incredibly knowledgeable people here, and I also like to check in with some of the folks I have "met" along the way to find out how they're doing. Also, there is a wide variety of topics here, which I like. I usually check in here once or twice a day if I can, sometimes just to read new threads or re-read old ones that have been helpful, but it can be very easy to focus on "t" and nothing else. You'll know when it's time for you to take a break from it for a while.

@Tom71

It's normal to spend a lot of time on this forum and learn all you can. That's a healthy thing. You end up reading so much you start to know what to expect with your t and when it changes you are more prepared for it.

I had times where I questioned if I was spending too much time here as well. If TT is helping you don't worry about it. If you start to follow negative posts or it's causing you to lose focus on other areas of life you may need to cut back.

I had days where I spent more time on this forum reading than I did doing anything else. It was when I was new to t and searching for every bit of hope I could find. Eventually you get burned out and realize it's time to start moving forward. Partly because spending too much time in front of a computer is no good for anyone and partly because you'll read threads like this that say don't get carried away.

Trust yourself and you won't go wrong.

@David Dubros

Do the opposite then.
Distract yourself with an activity
Do dishes
Have a shower
Go for a walk.
This works wonders

Well said! Except for dishes that's what I do when my anxiety is up and my wife wouldn't mind if I did the dishes more often.

Thanks

Hey Friend,
I get it, it's new and scary and you want as much info as you can about it....you want to know how this could have happened, how can it be treated, has anyone ever revived and how many of those recovery stories are close to your own so you can start to weight the likely hood of this resolving!!!

You find horror stories and freak out so you need to find positive stories.....

Oh, and what foods and meds can cause T, what can help T...what if I go to the movies or fly on a plane or wear purple on mondays......

I've been there!!!
Here's my best advice....do your due diligence. Learn what you can and then go back to living your life.

Getting your brain to recognize that this noise isn't a threat so the panic and fear can go away is the first step to getting better but you can't do that while you obsess over this.

You have a life to live, a happy life even with T....some day soon you need to get back to that life!!!
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

I obsess about T. I find that being a positive voice on here helps me though. If there is anything small I can do to help others it makes me feel somewhat less desperate with my own T. Weird. I know...

Not weird at all Friend!!
Being if service to others is a great way to get your head around T!
It reminds us to take our own advice, when we tell others hiw things can and will get better we also tell ourselves!!

Just remember to take breaks from T and enjoy life!!

There was a time that I "researched" too much on here. That was when I was still freaking out trying to find a cure. Now that I have my emotions under control I've been coming back. I just find this place fascinating, the clash of the optimists vs. the desperate is always compelling.

@Tom71,
TT is a lovely forum for tinnitus information and support and make friends along the way whom you can chat to by pm or on chat so enjoy your time here...
Love glynis

OK just spent 20 minutes on this site when I should have been working :)

Have to agree, while there are some scary stories here, I have gotten a lot of hope and optimism from this site
