Tinnitus Since
a few years ago but very noticeable now
Cause of Tinnitus
Right Ear, chronic infections and hearing loss (left ear?)
Hello

I have 30 percent hearing loss in my right ear due to chronic infections my whole life.
I have had tinnitus there for a few years but it was not bothersome at all. Until now.
This past week it has become very loud and my left ear has tinnitus as well.
I am having anxiety attacks and am depressed.

My family doctor should be letting me know soon when I will see an Ear Nose and Throat specialist.
I am reading so much on the internet but don't know what is best.
I need concrete results and help that will work.

PLEASE HELP ME.

Hi @ErnestTurriziani ,
A warm welcome to Tinnitus Talk
When you see ENT and audiology you might be given the option for hearing aids with having hearing loss or white noise generators.
Tinnitus can cause anxiety and depression and if it impacts on every day it's time to get help for it.
Medication can help along with talking therapy and also respiratory physio to learn breathing techniques to help stabilise your breathing when anxiety starts to prevent panic.

Depression on its own can soon have you on a downward spiral and find it hard just to get out of bed and its nothing to be ashamed of and can come to the strongest of us at any time.
Depression can take over socially and emotionally and physically and strip away your confidence and self worth but I promise you there is help for depression and you will get through it with support .

We are here around the clock and always someone to give support when you need it.

You can contact MIND yourself if you would like ten free 50 minute counselling sessions and they are lovely.
I know you have had tinnitus a long time so it's more likely the anxiety and depression making it seem worse for you and when anxiety hits hard its hard to release this emotion and cause panic ....

Try this to help.
When on your back put a hand on your chest and one on your stomach.
Breath in slow to the count of three and make your stomach rise also.
Breath out really slow to the count of three and repeat till calm......lots of love glynis ( keep posting on the main forums for support )

Welcome to the forum. Glynis already gave you the best kind of advise. I will only add that perhaps you need to aggressively mask the current spike so you won't be so anxious and panicking. Sometimes, when the brain knows there is something which can help soothe out T, it will likely calm down a bit and then you will better manage y9ur emotions and your T. Here are some masking suggestions:

1) Mask at bed time so you can sleep better. Find whatever sounds/music that are soothing to you. You can use a sound machine or sound pillow for this, or a computer with speakers.

2) If you need masking on the go, try load an ipod with nature sounds or music using itune, or use smart phone. You can also order some nature sounds via 'itune' to play on your PC.

3) If you have computer and speakers, you can try these excellent masking sounds:

TT's audio player: https://www.tinnitustalk.com/audioplayer/

or download free sound generator 'aire freshener': http://www.peterhirschberg.com/mysoftware.html

or make your own rain sound: http://mynoise.net/NoiseMachines/rainNoiseGenerator.php

or search youtube with words like 'tinnitus masking sounds', 'white noise', 'rain sound' etc.
