Hi Everyone,
I forgot to introduce myself. I suffer from tinnitus and hyperacusis from being too close to a loud speaker 30 Sep 2017. It's almost 3 months. I was devastated being a musician and cried daily for the first 2 months. I would say things started to improve around the six week mark in my hyperacusis by about 40% but since then gone back down to only 20% improvement.
I believe what caused it was exposure to every day noise which was recommended by my ENT who thought that i should not be wearing ear muffs too often and to try to get used to the noise. The set backs to my improvement in my case were:
- restaurant music and dish clanging noise and kids screaming with no ear protection (so I will have to wear ear plugs from now on)
- massage to my jaw and ear area
- acupunture (because for some reason my right side became numb after the session)
- sleeping on directly on the ear
What I think helped:
- good night's sleep or lots of rest
- I started magnesium chelate powder with b just yesterday and i felt my muscles immediately relax all over as i get super tense in my neck and shoulders which would affect my ear... I can actually feel something pulling my ear at times
- bending to one side for a while minute as if I am trying to get water out of my ear... I feel as if water draining and a pop
- laughing at comedy shows low volume or doing anything that makes me happy
I took turmeric tablets and is amazing for debloating but for some reason got me more ear pain do i stopped it after 5 days... or maybe i snacked on too many nuts which are inflammatory....
My audiologist and ENT both told me it would go away in about 3 months but that's in 1 weeks time so I feel very saddened that it hasn't happened as i was so hopeful it would heal.
I bought Alpine work safe earplugs as they offer higher protection than the musician ones but they are yet to arrive. Foam ones are not too comfortable and due to my ear pain I can't get custom ones made yet.
My questions are:
- has anyone noticed little things they did, ate or tips that improved their tinnitus and hyperacusis?
- does sugar and MSG and salt spike your tinnitus? So hard not to have sweet things over Christmas
- any success with vitamin B and magnesium chelate or how long before it was effective as just started yesterday?
- my jaws and ear sometimes click and i pop my ears all the time just by doing a wide smile with eyebrows up... strange?
But you don't have to answer all my questions just whatever input is appreciated.
I took a multi vitamin (which has all the b vitamins) since onset but it didn't really make much difference that I could see...
Any suggestions or advice even not related to my questions above is very welcomed as I need all the support I can get. I will start a diary as of today to outline my daily activity to see if anything helps because I hope to one day recover from this and work out what could have everyone on this forum and write something positive. I feel your pain. I am stuck at home as the world has become too noisy again today.
All the best
