Hi.

Well, even though my tinnitus hasn't changed a bit in these 10 months since I got it, I do have a success story with respect to hyperacusis.

So, it is true. Hyperacusis can go away. Now, was it Magnesium that helped or Ginger tea? Could be, but it has been 10 months and I really don't feel pain from loud sounds. I can even listen to cars beeping or motorbikes.

Now, for me this is a success story because hyperacusis is in my opinion far worse than tinnitus. It is debilitating and prevents you from leading a normal life.

So, even though I still have tinnitus, and would really like for it to go away, I am a happy person because hyperacusis is not what it was.

People take care of yourselves. Take Magnesium and maybe Ginger tea.

Hyperacusis can go away.

P.S. I can deal with dogs barking.

WONDERFUL NEWS :)

My hyperacusis is also slightly better. Last week I was on shooting range. I prefer the yellow cheap ear protectors.

Big headphones protectors are the worst I think. Heavy machine guns are 2x louder now for me.

damn, I miss shooting. I've been too afraid since shitnitus onset. I'm a badass shot too. So is my mom. She's a regular Annie Oakley.

@Apolonia
Did you have to quit your job?
How often did you use earplugs?
How often did you seek out silence?
How often did you use white/pink noise?
I did not quit anything. I was wearing earplugs for a month. However, I still wear them during movies in cinema and when I dry my hair and when I am near mixers.... So, I still protect myself regardless of the current condition. I was also taking Magnesium in pain.. it helped and I took ginger tea for a month and it helped.. But, I think that what helped the most was time... I guess that nerves can heal, in a way, but only with time and by avoiding loud sounds definitely

What kind of earplugs did you wear?

We live like in a bad dream but many live in a nightmare. Look, many of the people from this forum have bilateral 80dB tinnitus.

What kind of magnesium did you use, what dosage, and for how long?

The one that melts in the water.. any kind.. doesn't matter. It helped me because it would reduce the tension in my muscles and reduced the pain. I would take it for two weeks and then I would stop.. and then again because it is not good to take it a lot

I'm glad you are doing better Apolonia. As I recall reading some of your old posts you really had a difficult time.

It is true though, that hyperacusis does tend to subside with time, but the tinnitus stays. It is also true that nerves can recover. Periphery nerves can regrow at a rate of 1 mm per day, so it can take several months for them to recover.

It is also true, as Contrast said, that hyperacusis can come and go from time to time. I know from my own experience that it has more or less gone away completely, and even though there are days where I can feel it to some extent it has never gone back to its original bad state as it was initially.

I don't think that magnesium or tea had anything to do with your recovery. I believe that time was the healer. As it was in my case. I did try magnesium and some other supplements in the first few days. But I was not feeling any effect from it, and I am so impatient so I stopped using them soon after. It was primarily time that healed my hyperacusis, and I think the same has happened to you.

I agree with you, but I still recommend taking ginger tea. It did make my tinnitus worse (dunno why), but after dribbling it my hyperacusis was reduced immediately. When I would stop drinking, hyperacusis would come back.

I did not use any Pink or White noise. I don't find that helpful at all.

Are you sure it goes away with time. I pray to God you are right. I had mine for nearly 2 years no signs of improvement yet. May be it takes longer.
As for my tinnitus I have good and bad days.

Have read this elsewhere:

I have been trying Natural Calm (pure elemental magnesium citrate powder mixed with water) and have had astounding results with my hyperacusis. Aftrer about 4 days of taking this my hyperacusis is GONE. Yes I mean gone. After two years of suffering.

It seems all this time I had a magnesium deficiency. I had even tried other magnesium brands and they did not work for me. Not absorbable. This Natural Calm is the only thing that has worked. I have also tried calcium and magnesium, many, many different brands. I thought that because I was over 50 I just had to have calcium, WRONG. Did not work. Turns out I needed ABSORBABLE MAGNESIUM. Anyway, try this product. You can get it an any health food store or on line.

our modern diets are severely lacking in minerals!! so many of us have deficiencies, T or no. why do some people get T and others dont? I think mineral depletion is a big cause. I was anemic during pregnancy and have been breastfeeding basically for the past 6 years. it really makes a difference if you supplement!

Was this a homemade recipe? Or something you got out of a box at a store?
i boil garlic and ginger every morning, and drink it through out the day.
It's cheap and good for the body.
It feels good.
My hyperacusis is in remission now, I am still fragile and careful though.

So ginger tea has helped you too?
Yep... it has helped. It is good for health and well being... perhaps it helps hyperacusis as a few members claim. I don't really know. I drink ginger and garlic water everyday. Can't hurt. It is also cheap, which is better than spending hundreds on vitamins, at least on my budget.
