Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

Today is my 8th session of HBOT. It helps a little for any one who is planning to try it , u can ask me more if you want :)

Yes please. I have done one session and I felt it made T worse in my other ear and got me a bit scared to go back.

Side note: I think my tinnitus is caused by Epstein Barr, which is causing some sinus congestion so there could be some Eustachian tube issues.

Sometimes mine got worse , but it returned to normal at night

just booked one. will hopefully organize some more when there. I believe you need around 15 sessions back to back if studies are correct.

how did it work out for you Majeed? How many sessions did you go for and at what pressure?

just booked 10 sessions. Around 30ft if possible. some are less. Did you notice any long term improvement?

Not really at the moment its hard to tell. The high pitched whine in my left ear is on the edge of hearing. Sometimes I think its all in my head; makes me doubt my sanity lol. The right ear still seems the same. but again it comes goes changes etc.

How are you doing?

Well this is the tread that got me started on this forum. Thanks so much to everyone who posted.

I found a place in London, UK that does hyperbaric oxygen therapy for £40 per hour. I thought that was affordable compared to other countries and since I was still within the first 3 months of onset when I started I thought I would give it a go.

I am now on Day 12 of treatment and all in all I cannot say it has had a lasting impact on my symptoms but what's weird is that my tinnitus and hyperacusis both go down while I am inside of the chamber receiving oxygen.

The tinnitus starts to come back a few hours later and the hyperacusis follows. I have enjoyed the treatment very much and if you are wondering whether to do it or not I would say go for it if it's affordable and you get a doctor to give you the all clear first.

The only trepidation I had before starting was the fear of barotrauma. My ears pop all the time and there have been moments on planes where my ear drums have experience pain. But in the end it turned out not to be a big problem, you can ask the operator of the machine to raise the pressure slowly, you can also speak to them over an intercom if they don't go in with you and they can stop the pressure and let some out to give you time to equalise the pressure.

So in spite of some of the concerns raised on this thread I would say from my experience the treatment looks pretty safe as long as the people operating it are professional and you have had the necessary approval from a doctor.

The other people at the centre I go to here in the UK have MS. People go in and out of the chamber as if it were getting on and off a train. It's only really new people who get a bit nervous and I can imagine anyone with claustrophobia might find it hard in a smaller unit.

I might end my treatment at number 15 next week as I don't want to burn through more money. I am happy to answer any questions if anyone wants to know more about it. I can do a more detailed write up if anyone wants. Maybe a good idea to get some of these results in to a database/spreadsheet if not done already.

Thanks so much.

Today was the best session so far so I think I am going to give it 2 more sessions and if I still feel better I will go for the full 20 as per the research. I can go in to more detail about the depth and the effect it has on oxygen levels etc if anyone wants?

Here are some pics

It's pretty snug in there but fine is less than 3 of you

You put on a gas mask and look like that bad guy from Batman

And it makes your oxygen levels go through the roof
This was at a depth of 24 feet. It can make you feel a bit tingly (in a good way). And your head rushes with thoughts. The tinnitus goes right down for me and I can be myself again for a while.

@ChrisJ nice journey, keep us updated.

I do have theory that HBO can be useful even after acute period. Not for total cure, but for relief yes.
And since your t is from '88, u can give hope to many others to try, if u got the results!

God luck, and keep us updated!

Ah I should make clear that I have a new T sound in the last 3 months. The pulsate one I habituated to without even knowing it because when I was a kid I just thought it was normal to ear your heartbeat.

This is a high pitched ringing in my left ear that I am trying to get rid of. The HBOT makes my pulsate T go nuts after the treatment but it calms back down again. I think the two tones might actually be related to each other and come from a common cause because my blood pressure on my left arm is 14 points lower than on my right which would imply an artery problem.

But yes I do think that at any stage of tinnitus it would be good to give HBOT a go just to see what it's like when you're in there, if it does something for you that could give you a hint at the cause.

I did 8 sessions of HBOt within a week of trauma it did nothing in my case literally nothing but sill give it a try it was hell expensive to 350$ per session :I

Day 16 of HBOT

I wanted to keep this account contemporaneous so that it's accurate.

This morning I woke up with low tinnitus but high Hyperacusis and migraine. I had had trouble sleeping. I have just come out of O2 therapy and the Migraine and Hyperacusis was gone within about 10minutes of the pressurisation.

We went down to 24 feet which is the one I am most comfortable with.

I can still hear my T but it's like it's in the background, not taking over my whole head like before. In the early weeks of treatment it would ramp up after about 6 hours, in the evening. I would notice it the most in the kitchen where it is echos a lot and there is lots of clanging. I will report back this evening to let you know what happens but for a while this treatment really helps.
