Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

just finished 9 HBOT sessions.I notice my T hissing/statice electric always spikes right after HBOT treatment. while buzzing/whooshing tone seems a bit better only for a short time.

In the hospital they said to the other patient that spikes right after are something they hear a lot. You are asked to wait a couple of hours and report to an ENT if real ear pain.

I think you have to be patient. First your hearing will improve (I know this is also very important for you) and after that hopefully your T-loudness wil go more quiet. That is the hard thing! From hearing improvements (due to prednisone/pentoxifilline, HBOT or Low Level Laser Therapy) to impact on your tinnitus.

I heard from you you got 2 sessions per day, I wonder whether other TT-members also got 2 sessions per day? And als got treatments during the weekend....

About getting the T loudness lower: @attheedgeofscience (source: www.attheedgeofsciencee.com) says the following: When my hearing was assessed on August 5th that same year, I had gained as much as 25 dB of hearing thresholds at 8 kHz. But perhaps more importantly, I didn't even need an audiogram to tell me that: I could feel it in everyday situations as well (even though I was never hard-of-hearing). Unfortunately, the auditory improvement I experienced had virtually no impact on the intrusion levels of the ringing in my ears.

I also did HBOT (and prednisone and LLLT) and experienced the same: hearing levels get better and better... But when you just listen to you T: there is not much change... especially not on the short term. So you can't expect that your T will improve after 1-6 sessions. And if so you are very lucky!

As far as i know and from patients around me , most of patients with sudden hearing loss and T will benifit and recovery alot within 10 HBOT sessions. Unfortunately for T only like me (maybe hidden hearing loss not sure), it does not work very well. need more good luck my guess. Recently I have a feeling my T comes out of my brain instead from ears. It shifts accordding to my postion. if i am on my lefe side in bed, then it sounds more like from my left ear.

The hospital I'm now is filled with tinnitus and hearing loss patients. It's like a conveyor belt of people constantly put in the tank. It amazes me that its so standard procedure.

The third session did go easier than the second. With a dvd movie that you like the time goes faster. Pressure is 15 meters within 10m dive which is 2.5ATA. There are 5 air stops if I counted correctly.

Also people after a fire are put in immediately to rescue them from CO intoxication.

I've been to HBOT thrice. First time was like 8 weeks from onset or something, didn't really do much, but it was a mental relief at least. Second time was 3 weeks from re-exposure onset, helped significantly, made the tinnitus in my right ear disappear completely. Third time was around the same time from onset, and was also effective, nearly silencing my tinnitus in general. It also positively affected my older tinnitus that I had gotten 3 months prior. Each time took only 5 sessions, one per day.

I would definitely recommend this treatment if you can get it within a month or so from your onset.

Also you need to give the treatment time to affect. It's not often immediate, but instead the recovery takes place within a couple weeks after the treatment. It merely gives your body the ability to recover on its own, and it takes time for it to heal all wounds. Don't expect results in one or two days. And yes, it's completely normal for your tinnitus to spike a bit for a few days or weeks after treatment, and it's a sign that it actually did something. It happened to me every time and went away on its own, so I was only left with positive results.

do you have sudden hearing loss or T only?

Finished HBOT on 15 Nov. Yesterday and today I experience a main improvement in tinnitus loudness...
So maybe there will be something in your bucket. HBOT has effect till about 3 month afterwards...
Great to hear it! You have only tinnitus or with sudden hearing loss? I did HBOT within one month onsite.

Thank you for your reply, I had an aggravation of T caused bij 2 h 95 dB music. Started within 7 weeks. Did 20 treatments. And now (after 3 weeks) another significant improvement... (there were also improvements during the therapy (but with fluctuations))

It's so strange to see all the tinnitus / hearing loss / hyperacusis patients in the waiting room of the hyperbaric chamber at the Belgian hospital.

Such a common sense of knowledge, we all feel the same. My 10th hyperbaric treatment is done and I'm super tired. Don't know about the results since my T worsened over the sessions. But that is heard a lot by various patients.

What is weird is that there is no post op check. No check in the middle and I'm too scared to check hearing myself.

What I know is that I heard several extra tones in the tank. You get a bit used to it but 4 hours a day is still heavy. Every patient is hungry afterwards because HBOT boosts your metabolism the nurse said.

There are still a lot of questions. The best time after onset. The exact amount of sessions. Patients expect results also too soon. After 2 or 3 people expect much better hearing or less T. It's key to do the thing and pray for the best but leave expectations at the door.

I'm now resting for a few days.

17 sessions done, no improvement. The ENT specialist I saw today said for tinnitus there are several phases: 7 days, one month, three months, six months. Once after 6 months onset, there is only a small chance to cure.

Today ENT prescribed prednisone and vinpocetine SR. He said HBOT might not work for me after so many sessions. The neurology doctor just asked me to try one session, I myself want to take 20 session in total. Anyway I have done all I can do. Now just pray for good result.

What does the vinpocetine SR do?

Research paper: the use of Hyperbaric and Alternobaric therapy for tinnitus and hearing loss in Meniere's decease.

This is a paper from 2002 but the interesting fact is the variating pressure. I have never read this before. The hyperbaric pressure is used to regulate the pressure in the inner ear and so the endolymphatic and perilymphatic fluids in the ear. If this is true I'm super glad that I did HBOT (although results seem to be poor in terms of hearing in my case). But maybe my hydrops needs to be smaller first before HBOT has an effect, or I need more than 10 sessions who knows.

Don't know… just asked me to have a try.

It's for psycho-behavioural disorder in essence. Loss of memory, dizziness, buzzing in the ears. I finished all 20 HBOT sessions. My tinnitus didn't improve, but I habituate a bit now.

I can hear up to 14000 Hz from the above hearing test. How about yours? Do I have hidden hearing loss?

These hearing test videos confuse me because the ear that I have tinnitus in hears the sound as my left ear pretty much. I too feel like I hear at 14000hz but could be earlier than that. That's just where it gets loud.

This patient appears to have started very soon after sudden hearing loss. Plus she got:

"Cefuroximum 500 mg and pentoxifyllinum"

The oral taper period of corticosteroids was much longer then most people get: "17 days (60 mg of prednisone daily for 7 days, followed by a taper by 10 mg every 2 days).

I tried to convince my ENT for more than 10 sessions but she refused. It seems in Poland you get 15.

According to ECHM guidelines, treatment series of HBO in this case consisted of 15 daily 60-minute exposures to 100% oxygen at 2.5 atmosphere absolute (ATA). All sessions took place at the same time every day (11.00 AM) and at the same place (multisite hyperbaric chamber in the Silesian Burst Treatment Center in Siemianowice, Poland).

I'm so tired of reading per country differences. It's so painful. I'm glad I tried HBOT but it was a hussle to get it and maybe 10 sessions was not enough. It didn't help me.

My T didnt improve after 20 sessions. However, My H improved a lot.
not sure predisone or HOBT contributed to it. Now I habitate a lot after 9 weeks onsite.
