Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

I am visiting the ENT tomorrow and will ask her if she advises a second treatment of HBOT for my noise-induced relapse.

I got my first HBOT three weeks after the noise induced trauma and because the meds did not resolve my T completely.

Five weeks after HBOT my mild tone was reduced to a static hiss which I only heard in silent surroundings. The weeks after the sessions my ears were itching deep inside, like a wound that's recovering... I cannot tell whether it was HBOT or my own body healing...

I personally do believe it can help your body heal, but only in the first few weeks. Our prime minister got it on day one after a noise trauma.

HBOT cured an aquaintance 100% after acute trauma. He underwent countless sessions though. I guess it works for some...

Might be possible, but yet again, this is one of those "My friend's cousin's mom's uncle's dog got cured" stories. I'm yet to hear a first hand story of HBOT curing somebody 100%.

I have tried the HBOT... did nothing for me, but didn't hurt anything either.
Oxygen therapy has lots of benefits, unfortunately fixing tinnitus may not be one of them.

I have received this reply when I applied for more info from a Hyperbaric Oxygen therapy POSEIDONIA MEDICAL CENTRE

Dear Tony,
Thank you for your email and for the interest in Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy.
So what is Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy?
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) is perhaps best known as a treatment for divers suffering from Decompression sickness or 'The Bends' as it is commonly
called. However, HBOT is becoming a common medical treatment for a wide range of traumatic, chronic diseases and conditions including Tinnitus.
We have treated many cases of Sudden Hearing Loss and Tinnitus with great results, some patients have been completely healed while others have stated
a minimum of 75% improvement, each person reacts differently.

Any comments? Has anybody used it and what were the results?

It may only be effective if you try it in the first three months after tinnitus onset.
After that it is a waste of money.
I think think here is a thread about HBOT on this forum.

Any comments has anybody used it and what were the results?

Hi Tony,

I did 10 treatments (all within two weeks) almost exactly two months after my tinnitus started (at the edge of the window of the 2--month opportunity for HBOT to help tinnitus. Overall, it didn't really help my tinnitus. In fact, it at times seemed to slightly exacerbate it.

But I'm glad I did it, as they were a catalyst for a major turning point in stabilizing my nervous system (which was extremely agitated from the ototoxic drug I took that gave me tinnitus). -- I started out at 2.0 atm, but discovered that much pressure was too hard on my very tender ears. I did much better at 1.75 atm.

Besides stabilizing my nervous system, it also greatly stabilized my mood, disposition, and ability to deal with this major intrusion into my life. I now look at my HBOT sessions as putting me on the fast track in helping my brain "habituate" (I don't particularly care for the word or the connotation). But the HBOT sessions did leave me with a much greater neurological resilience to deal with the challenge of tinnitus.

If I had my druthers (financal ability), I'd purchase a home mild HBOT chamber. My understanding is they're around $12,000-$20,000 or so. The pressure only goes up to about 1.3 - 1.5 atm, but it appears using mild HBOT consistently is better if you're going to HBOT long-term.

I think mHBOT would be especially well-suited for somebody with noise-induced tinnitus, as it apparently can dramatically raise stem cell activity in all parts of the body. I think it would also be especially well-suited for those who are having an extremely difficult time emotionally and psychologically.

There were times when I came out of the chamber feeling almost euphoric, and it could last for 2-3 days afterwards. I really think having a home chamber, along with the ability to use it several times a week would go a long way toward keeping me out of the doldrums (which I'm getting better at already).

Best...

Thanks veru usefull info I will have to think it over carefuly. But they insist they helped a lot of people get over it.

Have a read of the tinnitus hub results. HBOT does virtually nothing for members here who have tried it.
Dimitar IV said it helped him after 10 sessions
Liza2018 said .HBOT cured an aquaintance 100% after acute trauma. He underwent countless sessions though. I guess it works for some...

Who knows?
At least you can try and know that you've tried that too. So you had T in 2001 and then in 2011 started again, then stoped again and now you have it 3td time from 2016?... what did you do to recover from the first two times?

We can all relate to stats or we can try everything. Everyone is different, I've posted about my expirience with HBOT. I have a friend who did it after 3 years and had return in hearing loss with some db. Dont give a !@#$ about stats anymore.
If your money is more important than your health - its your choice.
My T is gone, maybe for a period of time, who knows. I stick here because I can give some support. Some people leave in the first day of relieve - selfish (my opinion)

Hi!

So my tinnitus began about 2 weeks ago after spending 1.5 hours next to a speaker in a small nightclub. It has faded a good deal since then, and I have been treated with Prednisolone (30mg) for one week for acoustic trauma. The treatment brought my hearing back to the "normal" range, but still -10 db at some frequencies in my left ear (even though the speaker was close to my right ear). So I am wondering what do you guys think of a HBOT treatment? I can start in the next week, which will be about 3 weeks after my onset. I know that its not ideal, however I was not really aware of the treatment until recently and am currently very far from any possibilities to get the treatment. I have read some papers suggesting that the treatment is particularly effective between 3-6 weeks (of course the earlier the better) and is helpful for up to 3 months of tinnitus onset.

Of course I would be taking a 12 hour flight back home prior to the treatment (which I am still worried about)

But if anybody else has some insight regarding the treatment in my situation please let me know. It also seems like my hearing loss is negligible at this point (at least that's what the doctors say). I spoke to two ENTs (one who examined me and one family friend who is back home right now) who both seem to think the ringing will be gone in a month, which seems super arbitrary. But either way please comment your experience and thoughts!

Here are some links about the treatment -- feel free to share more with me!

tfw i had a chance to get hyper baric oxygen but my family couldn't afford it and the people their told me they never heard of it helping hearing loss. So I decided not to go with it.

100% cured not but one of my fellow HBOT patients which was in the same 10 person tank as me said his hearing improved a lot. And yes, I spoke to the other patients and some of them didn't notice a difference at all. Apparenlty it's no magical cure. Let's aside that I'm super happy that they try something instead of let you rot in hell and tell you to go away.

If it is still high after several weeks then try it. You might regret it if you don't do it within the time window.

Your dose with prednisolone was quite low, only 30 mg. You might get more results with: 60,60,60,50,40,30,20, 10,10,10. You could also ask for pentoxifiline, 1,200 mg each day. This is more time and cost effective. When time ad money is no problem you can combine HBOT and prednisolone/pentoxifilline. Good luck!

Just to mention, I discovered recently that some businesses rent (lease) out mHBOT units for home use. The company I discovered was in Denver, and charged approx. $500-$600/month, depending on the length of the lease. -- HBOT is so good for so many conditions, that even if it didn't do anything for tinnitus, it would likely be beneficial in many other ways. And a month(s) long experience with it might be something that could very possibly be a valuable thing to know about as we age and deal with more conditions associated with aging.

I started using a home unit this past week, and immediately began to sleep much better. As a result, I'm able to deal with my tinnitus better. After getting a unique neck adjustment (atlasprofilax) two days ago, my tinnitus now seems to be going through some kind of "recalibration" (generally improving modestly). I think it's a combination of both the HBOT and the neck adjustment. The man who did the atlasprofilax said he's had a number of his clients tell him their tinnitus improved.
