I Developed SSHL and Severe Tinnitus on 4/3/2016

Good to know, beside the T I also have hypercusis with severe hearing loss and aural fullness.
Hope to get better! Today I used ear plug in my office it made my T louder but hypercusis bearable

@Lorac it seems to me and I checked with SoundCheck that my hearing is worse again!
Did it change for you at the bigining or did you have complete hearing loss ? And initially did you also have vertigo ?
Dom

I had complete hearing loss all at once. It was not gradual. Extreme vertigo wiped me out in the beginning. I couldn't even lift my head without vomiting. The dizziness resolved within a month.

Again Monday I felt pretty good hearing better Wednesday I was tested by audiologist and my hearing improved less T, got hearing aids did well till this am! Now hearing down and T up again it's a revolving door!!!)

It will be 7 months and today I almost completely lost my hearing on my left ear and I have a loud low pitch sound in my lt ear that feels like a vibration in my head! The little hearing I had is gone and it feels terrible

This is my recent hearing test improved since 7 months ago, it seems better but T remains.
Today is again a bad day I am sure my hearing test today would not be this good.

It's 7 months now, saw my otoneurologist today, my hearing has not improved and my T and aural fullness and hypercusis continues. I kind of lost my optimism. Not only no one can help but no one can help in giving a duration of symptoms or possible outcome. He asked me to start nortriptiline.
If anyone has fluctuating hearing loss and above symptoms please respond
Thanks!

11 months for me, still have this screaming beast in my ears. I am like you with good days and bad days for no reason. Mostly bad however. I have slight high frequency hearing loss and i tried hearing aids for 2 months and saw no improvement. I also saw Dr Brennan twice, i may start TRT with her but have twice had my appointments cancelled and have to wait another 2 months to get an appointment.

Strangely what might make you feel better is getting something worse than T for a while. 5 months in to my most recent bout of tinnitus my body started twitching randomly. Could be my legs, inner ears, hands anywhere. This frightened the bejazus outta me and tinnitus although loud and annoying became a walk in the park. The twitching has subsided somewhat but the T doesn't really bother me anymore except whdn I'm in beautiful quiet places. Then I mourn the loss of precious quiet.

@Mont i also saw dr Brenner but after a few months I noted no change but I think I may have a form of Ménière's and my hearing fluctuates from bad to worse and when my hearing decrease my T is crazy
Did you test your hearing when T increases?
@volsung37
I just realized that I may have Ménière's and it sucks, there is no real treatment. Glad u are better

Tomorrow it will be 8 months since my hearing loss and T, there has been a little progress:my anxiety is gone, very slight improvement in hearing, less dizziness and hypercusis but my T is unchanged.
I have noted no changes with anything that I have tried, hopefully slowly my T will also improve

try Amitriptilyne for good sleeping , start as low as 12mg qhs or 10mg qhs , don´t know the minimun dose in US , but will make you sleep very good and wake up in a good mood . the key is take this 12hours before waking up . It will modulate your response also to T , but T will still be there although . For Hiperacusia , try to put an earplug on your better ear , the earplug must be as filtering as little as it can , or just use some plug for musician but without the filter but in only one ear (your best ear) that way youre going to dampen the noise in your auditorypahway and not suffer from H , dont use the earplug on your worst ear because it will make your T louder and you would not listen . Try it that way , the brain seems to low the T in the bad ear and focus on the ear with the earplug . But dont use a plug with too much dB filter because you will not hear , you have to balance both ears . Its a simple and effective way to get ri of the H and T during the day , try ami or nor during night :)

update: almost nine months since sshl , my hearing has improved and my tinnitus is better( last five days)
this is the longest stretch where my symptoms are manageable.
Hopefully it will stay like this!:rockingbanana:

Wow! That's quite positive! Let's hope it stays manageable!

It's now 10 days and my hearing has improved so much that I hardly can hear my tinnitus!
My hypercusis is gone and no dizziness!
I feel great! Just booked a trip to Mexico for my birthday.
If it continues I will write a success story!
If anyone with SSHL reads this please be hopeful
I was suicidal for months, now I feel alive again!!

@Dominic1955, Glad to hear that you're doing better! Did you try TRT and if you did, did it help you? I see you saw Dr. Brenner from your earlier post. I don't have SSHL but was considering TRT. I have HFHL. My noise is really intrusive atm.

I did see Dr Brenner but it was not helpful, I think time is the cure, I really did not do anything different, I did stop alcohol for 8 months( I did not drink everyday) I stopped caffeine and my occasional cigars. I don't think it helped. After almost 9 months I just woke upv10 days ago with improved hearing loss and a marked decrease in T , amazing feeling to be able to look forward again!
If you read my old posts I was desperate!
I went to several otoneurologist at university centers and no help! I was ready for a cochlear implant and I was willing to pay for it! I am so glad that I just waited!
