I Found Zoloft Really Helpful for My Tinnitus

Tinnitus has a very strong association with OCD. Many years ago I went to see a doctor about my tinnitus. I was suicidal and in major panic. He checked my ears and said he didn't see anything wrong. I asked him if there was a way to reduce the overwhelming anxiety I was experiencing.

He started me off on Zoloft, not knowing whether it would help or not. Within 2 weeks I felt like a cloud had lifted off of me, and I felt like the tinnitus was gone. It wasn't gone, but my mind didn't focus on it, so it was essentially gone for me. High doses of Zoloft helps to control OCD. When the OCD starts to dissipate, you start to not hear the tinnitus anymore.

Go to a psychiatrist, and not a medical doctor, and get on high dosages of Zoloft, 50 to 100 mg to start. Give it two-three weeks and watch the magic transform your life. Other SSRI's most likely work as well, but only in high dosage. Treat the OCD, don't treat the tinnitus.

Try my advice and find some relief. I went as high as 200 mg. Now I do 100 mg with more as needed. Tinnitus is a beast, that I know.

You are crazy and a complete idiot. You just habituated through a zombie state to your tinnitus, that's all. You didn't lower it. Next time when you will come off Zoloft your tinnitus will go through the roof, I guarantee you. SSRI and antidepressants worsen tinnitus, it has been backed by science from a 2017 study.

Please, anyone, don't listen to this idiotic advice.

I was just prescribed sertraline which I think is another name for Zoloft. I didn't fill it yet, though.

I was hoping for more opinions to be posted. So far, one 'really helps" and one "are you crazy, no!"

Anything else?

Edit: I just searched it in the forum. Lots of horror stories and a few "it didn't worsen my tinnitus " claims.

I hate this.
