I Hate TRT (Tinnitus Retraining Therapy)

Sorry to hear TRT did not work for you @dgray. However, TRT is not a scam as some people believe. I have corresponded with you by private messenger a while back. While I don't want to go into details, here in a public forum. I know the treatment plan that you were getting from Mr Jastrebof. In my opinion, it falls well short of what proper TRT is supposed to be. When you told me what it entailed you know I was very surprised.

That's all I will say here.
Once again sorry things didn't work out

Michael
You are 100% correct in your statement however, how could the founder of TRT not deliver his own treatment correctly - that is what baffled me. I have no ill will towards Mr. Jastrebof at all. I just believe that time and the Lord helped me and that is it. You are a kind man sir and I truly believe that you just want to help. I just know how I feel and I still struggle but in time I will be better, I hope.

You know what? I knew you would show up here because every time people start bashing

lol...you have made me laugh @threefirefour and I thank you for that and didn't know you were a clairvoyant! Seems you know when I'm going to show up here when no-one else does.. Great line, I guess we might become friends after all....:p

Not clairvoyance, predictability. You do it every time. I get that you think it helped you and that's fine, but the idea of TRT in the tinnitus community is dying. We don't want it. Defending it isn't going to stop that. Its just spitting in the wind.

Well it has helped some people. That's what matters, right? But it does not help everyone, and that should also matter.

The trial has been completed for some time, but results are yet to be published. Perhaps when they are, it might help settle the issue for everyone. Then we can all get some sleep!

Trials don't mean much in my opinion as each person will be different. I had TRT twice with good results but it may not work for someone else, especially if a person has a negative mindset from the outset, and many people do.

What a delightfully pointless thread. As per usual we have the internet google doctors out in full steam performing at their best. I'm going to guess out of the 130 posts and 5 pages later, 1-2 people here have actually used TRT. More so, asking if TRT works on a tinnitus suffers forums is about as useless as asking if Bill Gates needs more money. PS. He doesn't.

Discussing the merits of TRT or another sound program should be done with your doctor and audiologist regardless of your opinion. Because unless you've studied these topics for years at university you don't deserve to have one. Then you can make an informed choice.

Opinion discarded.

They matter because they would show how well it helps people compared to not doing it, and seeing if it's statistically significant.

TRT always seems to get a negative reaction but unless you have tried it yourself you will never know! ;)

Didn't used to. Part of the problem of why it it still exists and celebrating 30 years of wasting people's time and money's because it initially got good reception from the tinnitus community, and continued to get it for years until recently. That's why the older people here like it and the younger people know what's up. Progress is made every generation I suppose :)

TRT is counselling on tinnitus to help you adapt to your sound and emotionally get your head around the condition if struggling with the sound you hear and support wearing White Noise Generators.
It's not a cure but any support can only be a good thing in my opinion .

I know what it is. We all do, which is why it's lost so much support over the years.

Let's assume for a second the white noise generators are statistically significant in helping tinnitus. Then that's the generators but the therapy itself may not be. In fact that's why there's a study being done, because there's large skepticism about it after people noticed that those who underwent the therapy and not don't really show much difference in attitude.

I think any counselling can help regarding depression and anxiety but if it came from a specialist who has tinnitus and knows all about tinnitus then they really understand about it and what your going through!

Some people don't use the internet and have to rely on the health service and hospitals and specialist advice ....
Im just open minded about it and its just one option available

Most people (like, >95%) have Internet. That's a very very small demographic.

Of course it will delight you when the trials report that TRT doesn't work when I know it does.....

Darn right.

I wonder if the UK are apart of the trial as its gold star treatment over here?

feel free to shill for TRT all you want. Doesn't change the fact that more and more countries are gonna start cutting the useless fat once they begin to realize it's useless, and hopefully use that money for research to actually treat tinnitus like the Netherlands.

Every post I've seen from you is negative and pessimistic, the worst part is that you make incredibly dumb statements and new people on the forum might see this and get even more stressed. I just finished reading the book by Jastreboff and TRT is a tool to speed up habituation, and yes this is a natural process and no it's not a cure in the strictest sense. However many people habituate to the point that they are never aware of their tinnitus anymore unless they are thinking about it:

And guess what, it is impossible to habituate to a stimulus that is perceived as a threat, keep this negativity up and you'll have a very difficult time habituating and spend a lot of energy better focussed elsewhere.
