I Hate TRT (Tinnitus Retraining Therapy)

If you're talking about earwax kind of sure.

No I'm not talking earwax kind. I'd kindly suggest you learn more about T before making so many absolute statements about it.
It's complicated and nobody holds much certainty about it. Not me, not you either.

Alright, what kind of tinnitus are you talking about?

Yes, they have reasonable success rates.

That's not what the results of actual surgeries suggest. You know, these inconvenient things called facts.

Alright, assuming you're correct, then is the ear causing the sound in these cases? That's as much medical tinnitus as pulsatile objective. Tinnitus as we know is a result of maladaptive neuroplasticity. That means the brain already "corrected" itself. There's a little inconvenient fact for you.

Tinnitus is a very difficult matter. No one for sure knows what causes it (there are MANY things that cause it). I am very positive and do hope they do find a cure for it. I am all for it and want all to be rid of this noise, that screws us over daily.

On the other hand, I have used TRT over 20+ years ago and It DID get rid of my hyperacusis. Hyperacusis is a HORRIBLE thing and all that have it have my deepest sympathy. It's painful and can limit a person in their environment.

I am not recommending anything here, this is just my view from an individual that has been dealing with tinnitus almost 30 years.

Yup.

Not always. I just gave you an example above.

Not always but usually. This is why the real answer is to fix the brain; not the ear, and this is the new leading school of thought in tinnitus communities. The brain is the problem. Even if there's a problem with the ear, it's the brain making the sound. That's why there's some people with hearing loss but no tinnitus as well.

@GregCA by the way if you think fixing the ears will solve tinnitus I don't want you to walk away thinking I'm belittling your opinion. Of course fixing the ears may work in some cases like acute ones and can only be beneficial. I'm just saying that fixing the brain is the main thing that will fix tinnitus.

I don't, since in many cases T is due to a brain maladaptive plasticity. I thought you knew that already... you are really confused!

Now I am because you were arguing that they aren't wrong. Sorry if I misinterpreted what you thought. You're right about this though.

Fixing hearing loss may reverse tinnitus - the hope being is that it could reverse the maladaptive plasticity as the brain has increased input @threefirefour. Also when people receive a CI there are reports of t reducing and even going away and some success has been achieved in hearing aids. Just something for you to think about regarding your post you think it will not work. For those who have no measurable hearing loss, fixing the damaged ribbon synapases may also be beneficial to fixing tinnitus.

We've also got experimental therapies with VNS, rTMS and advancements in deep brain stimulation as well as Susan Shores signal timing device ontop of rl-81 and sf003 to keep hope for, so my fellow sufferers, keep the faith.

I wish that were true. I'm pretty sure that's what they used to say back in 2007...

That's what i told myself when my T started back then, and now 10 years later the only advancement has been in the volume of my T, mine used to be a 3/10 after habituating, now it is a 10/10 and after 6 months with this new level of T i'm not making any progress with habituating again, if anything it's still getting worse.

Agree with the OP. If my toilet wasn't working and the plumber arrived and he said "whelp, I'm not gonna fix your toilet, but here's some therapy to help you adjust to your new life of shitting in the woods".. guess what, he wouldn't be a plumber for very long. Because that industry isn't full of frauds.

Something in your ear or auditory processing is broke resulting in a noise. A doctor should fix the noise or there shouldn't be a fucking bill.
That is without a doubt the best description I have ever read regarding the theory that EVERY HEALTHCARE PROVIDER in the industry touts " I am sorry, but you'll just have to get used to the noise - don't think about it".

So much easier said than done.

I am over a year dealing with this issue and still have days whee I struggle horribly.

Oh and by the way I did TRT with the founder of TRT - Mr. Pawel Jasterboff himself............................over $7,000 for hearing aides + $4,800 for the TRT and the ONLY thing that has helped me is My Lord, Jesus Christ and time. I will pray for the peace of every single member here. God Bless. - douglas

P.S. - I love your analogy of the plumber and pooping in woods.

TRT is essentially a scam. There's a lot of people here who don't want to admit it but the fact anyone can do this on their own and in fact does without any help speaks volumes.

Trust me my friend, I feel much guilt for the money I shelled out for it. People prey on desperate folks. That is wrong

I'm sorry they took that much money from you wrongfully. Any scamming is unacceptable :(
Thank-you. However,I was a willing participant, just feel stupid now. Could have had a vacation of a lifetime with that money...................but when we are desperate we do desperate things. I don't understand why or how folks can really say TRT works and that time is not the driving factor. Makes no sense at all. If TRT was what helped me, I'd have no issue of saying that.

Fuck I hope Pawel Jastreboff gets BAD tinnitus himself and suffers for eternity. What a prick scammer he is!!!

Fully agreed. I wish there was a hell so that awful man could spend eternity there. Scammers are one thing, but scammers who benefit off the backs of people's misery deserve the worst fate they can get.

I know it is hard sometimes but the Lord will help you. I promise. He has helped me. He is my only hope. God Bless

You know, he actually told me he had tinnitus but he was used to it. Frankly, I never believed him at all. I think it is part of his TRT show.

Sorry to hear TRT did not work for you @dgray. However, TRT is not a scam as some people believe. I have corresponded with you by private messenger a while back. While I don't want to go into details, here in a public forum. I know the treatment plan that you were getting from Mr Jastrebof. In my opinion, it falls well short of what proper TRT is supposed to be. When you told me what it entailed you know I was very surprised.

That's all I will say here.
Once again sorry things didn't work out

Michael

You know what? I knew you would show up here because every time people start bashing (((TRT))) you come in to defend it. Shilling for TRT this much is pretty lame. Lemme guess all the failures of TRT are just some other variable and not the fact TRT is a very dodgy regime? You do this all the time and there's a reason people on this post agree it sucks; because it does.

It's fine to support habituation but TRT sucks.
