I Hate TRT (Tinnitus Retraining Therapy)

Have you had TRT? I wouldn't knock something unless I had tried it. I would gladly try it.
No. I just read the book.

In terms of watching, there's nothing it offers that something else, same price or cheaper, offers better.

Cheaper? CBT. Better (actually reduces tinnitus)? In most cases, ACRN works to reduce it, and acts as a WNG for about the same price. TRT is just obsolete. There's a reason it's become more or less of a joke on tinnitus forums.

I'll value an opinion on such a delicate subject, when the individual has actually tried the method. Not, the opinion of someone that has no clue and never tried it and just bashes it.....

I didn't want to continue talking with him fishbone as the conversation wasn't going anywhere and pointless. Just wanted to get rid of him....

From my understanding TRT is ideally a WNG and CBT combo. Reading a book is not the same as being treated. Reading the book and doing treatment would allow you to determine if it works.
I agree the premise of it is a bandaid at best. I just would like to desensitise my auditory system so I can get rid of this H reactivity, TTTS and maybe stabilise my extremely variable T and maybe WNGs can help with that.

Oh the "you never tried it" meme.

I can play that game to. Someone who tried it will most likely try to convince themselves that it works because they don't want to admit that it was thousands of dollars down the drain.

I hear for you, TRT got rid of hyperacusis. Here's a damn interesting paper.

Or because you knew you'd lose:rolleyes:

I agree. I'm just saying there's things that are much better for the price.

When will people understand that you cannot counsel yourself especially something that is so difficult to deal with like tinnitus. One needs a therapist that understands. Most therapist that counsel tinnitus patients also have tinnitus. Therefore, they have a deep understanding of the condition.

I go by my experience and how it helped me. I don't read papers...... I suggest you, TRY to do the same sometime :)

See what I mean, total waste of time.
Yeah. Just cut out the middleman and admit I'm right :)

>"TRT works you just don't know because you haven't tried it"!
>*Gets confronted with evidence showing him that it's not the best method*
>"W-well, paper-shmaper. Muh experience."
Really? I know you're more honest than that.

Let's just be open and honest about TRT. All it is for most people is an expensive distraction, a distraction that gets you just far enough to stop caring about the ringing in your head. It doesn't cure anything, it doesn't even lower the volume or intensity. Whether you use TRT or not you will eventually stop caring about the ringing. When it becomes all day every day for months and years, you naturally start to become less tormented by it. That's not to say it won't always be annoying, and some days will be worse than others and it will always be a struggle. That's why Michael lives on this forum. Because despite his faith in TRT it hasn't allowed to him to have any other life but this. Michael is living proof that TRT is useless.
