Hello,

So 2 weeks ago I made the mistake of combining Pentoxifylline and Ginkgo biloba. I didn't know they shouldn't be mixed.. I stopped taking them a week later.

Yesterday I was playing soccer and during the match my heartbeat got suddenly so loud suddenly that I could hear it in my left ear. I guess something broke. Which is very strange.

Now every time I exercise and my pulse goes up, I hear it crazy loudly in my left ear. This is not normal.

Has anyone got any idea what could have happened?

I've had this for years and it's honestly never bothered me.

If this was what made up the entirety of my tinnitus, I'd be a perfectly contented human being getting on with my life.

I don't know if the two substances combined are what have caused this sudden occurrence for you, it sounds plausible, but I honestly wouldn't worry about it in the grander scheme of things.

If this is the thing that caused it, it'll probably disappear on its own in time. If not, then it's hardly the end of the world; just thank your lucky stars you're not living with severe constant multi-tonal tinnitus and having to white knuckle your way through each living hour, like some of the people here.

Yes true, but I also have tinnitus in both ears. High pitched ringing and whooshing.

And now also this. But it's strange because I can only hear it when I'm in bed and my head is against the pillow. Is this pulsatile tinnitus or am I imagining it?

Most likely obstructed blood flow. Pain in the arse.

Read the pulsatile tinnitus category.

Can you stop the sound by pressing on the side of your neck? And don't ask where on the neck - just press near your jugular on the side of the sound and see if it does anything.

Can pulsatile tinnitus have a non somatic cause even if it normally happens when lying down or waking up from sleep?

Yes.

Not always, but commonly, it is due to obstructed blood flow. I have pulsatile tinnitus as well as regular tinnitus. My pulsatile tinnitus is caused by stenosis of the left transverse sinus in my head. I have been waiting three years for a stent to open the narrowing back up.

Thanks! What did you do to determine that? MRA? Also how safe is that surgery?

Yes, I can stop it. But how can the blood flow be obstructed? Which doctor can confirm this?

From a narrowing in a vein.

Have you read the pulsatile tinnitus thread on how to get a diagnosis? That's the first thing you need to do.

Yep.

Lol, yep, to the extent that I'm not reasonably contented with the status quo at this moment in time.
