Cause of Tinnitus
Naproxen 500mg or ETD, not sure.
It had been about 3 days since I got tinnitus now. This is how it all started....
So, I've been having back pain and i recently got checked for it. I got prescribed Cyclobenzaprine 5 MG and Naproxen 500 MG. I was told to take 2 tablets of Naproxen per day and other one at bed time. I've been taking them for 9days straight before the problem started. During that period I got a sore throat and got a bad headache on the 9th day of taking them. At that same day, because of the headache I took 2 tablets of Ibuprofen and 2 tablets of naproxen (I didn't know at that time it was bad to consume these two at once). So, the next day it felt formal, I just had a slight headache. However, around 10am in the morning, my right ear started to have pressure and felt blocked. So, I closed my nose and mouth and blew in which released the pressure. the later on the pressure came back again, but this time it did not go away. Even after I blew in to get the pressure off, it would slowly come back. So, it just left it and continued on to my day. Then the next day when I woke up the pressure from my ear was gone but, the ringing started. I don't think I have lost hearing in my ear as, i can still hear the same Hz from both ears. My right ear just feels slightly blocked. It has been like that since then.....

I've experienced ear problems in the past and had multiple experiences with the pressure in the ear, but I have never had ringing stay in my ear. I don't know if the was the Naproxen and Ibuprofen or the pressure in my ear that caused the tinnitus. I have anxiety and this is just making it worse.

Thank your for your feedback, I appreciate it so much.

It is most likely the pressure. Could you have ETD? It is worth talking to an ENT.

I hope it goes away. I've also noticed that I have a lot of mucus now, is that because of the ETD?

Interesting. I have the same problem. It could very well be that the mucus is clogging up your tubes. As you can see I have ETD too so I can't tell you how to get rid of it. That would be the blind leading the blind. I hope yours goes away.

Do you think the meds had anything to do with this? Thank you for helping and I wish you luck too.

I have had fullness in my ears, hearing would partially out by 20% or more in one ear, only to return to normal after a few days, and similar problems, but I never, not even once, had the kind of anxiety that started shortly after the tinnitus started. This has subsided quite a bit, not totally, but enough that it's not "killing" me anymore. I would advise you to make an appointment with an ENT doctor, maybe he/she will be able to pinpoint something.

The anxiety will subside, so get your ears checked out. It's very disturbing when tinnitus starts, as anybody here can tell you first-hand. Your neurological system does not know what the sounds are, whether it's a tiger attempting to catch you or something similarly dangerous, and so creates a fight or flight situation which will eventually lessen and your perceptions of tinnitus will relocate to a different part of the brain that is not concerned with it. And, there's still a very good chance that the tinnitus activity will cease for you entirely, as it does for many. Feel better, real soon!

I've struggled with anxiety in the past and the tinnitus situation is adding more fuel to the fire, But Im trying my hardest to deal with this. I will be trying to make an appointment with an ENT doctor really soon.

The days have been rough. Its feels good to know that it ceases for many, I hope mine does too . How long would you think it will take? Thank you so much for helping.

I think the chances are pretty low. Occum's razor suggests it's a manifestation of your previous ear pressure problems.
Possibly, I had a really bad ear pressure problem like 8 years ago where my ear drum was damaged. Since then I've had ear pressure problems, I would hear ringing noise just for a bit then it would go away. It never stayed until now. Could this be permanent now??

I don't think that anybody can say how long that can take, what will happen, etc., as everybody is different, but it's pretty much agreed upon by those with the most experience here, that stress makes it worse. Your best bet, IMO, is to see doctors for whatever you believe might have caused, or contributed, to this. That's what I did, and I saw two ENT doctors for two opinions, an audiologist, my DDS for possible TMJ, my PCP for meds, and an osteopath at an Urgent Care Center when I panicked while my PCP and ENT were both on vacation. Even though I still don't know the reason(s) for my tinnitus, I've ruled out anything dangerous, and can now focus on reducing my stress and returning to normal. If the tinnitus goes away, I'll be very happy. If it remains, I'll habituate like most everybody else does, and it will fade to another part of the brain so that I won't even be aware of it the vast majority of the time. Just try to calm yourself, and remind yourself that tinnitus can't hurt you.
