The guys on the green motorcycle plan to get skin cancer, too... and I'm guessing that the guys are in the 0.1% on the Gaussian distribution chart above... probably also drinking 20 units of alcohol daily and smoking 20 per day, too.
Really makes me a bit angry that most of us get tinnitus without 'asking for it'.
Fungus.
The simple fact of the matter is that the vast, vast majority of people exposed to ototoxic drugs, loud noise, or other things walk away with no issues, or tinnitus that goes away within a few days or reduces to a level that is not noticeable, because they simply do not care about being in the moment, and enjoying sensory input. The ringing is probably still there, but they're too dumb to notice it unless they're in dead silence trying to fall asleep.
Agree. Fully agree, even.
Below is a distribution of the IQ scores of the general population. I have some idea where the folks featured in that film-clip will land on the IQ-curve...

If you're smart as FUCK though (way above average IQ), as many people on this forum are, based upon the level of discussion I have observed, you'll notice the sound 24/7 and your brain is physically incapable of ignoring it, because you're so naturally in tune with your surroundings, always listening and looking for new data.
Being extremely "in the moment" and in tune with your surroundings is defined by medical "professionals" as "anxiety," where you are smart enough and mindfull enough to notice everything your senses and memories are telling you. Naturally, the medical treatment for being too smart and attentive is to take sedating drugs like benzos and SSRIs, that make you less conscious. As a result of my "anxiety." I have both profound reaction speed and profound awareness of tinnitus. This increased awareness of reality is also why so many famous historical artists were considered "mentally ill:" they were intelligent enough to see through the thin veneer covering reality that others couldn't.
For instance, despite the fact that I have tinnitus due to minimal hearing loss, I am so in tune with my surroundings that when I was playing with my little brother (7 years old) earlier, I noticed an electrical 16-18hKz sound that was running at 5dB in the background long before he did. His hearing is 100% perfect, because he is a child. I have lost 5% of my hearing.
Before I got tinnitus and floaters (audio and visual interference), this extreme environmental awareness helped me, as a young child, appreciate life in a way that was impossible for other people to understand. Now, I suffer.
