Cause of Tinnitus
Zoloft
Good evening everyone.

I am new to this forum and new to tinnitus. I started zoloft on June 27th for anxiety. After about 3 days I noticed a very light ringing in my right ear. A week after I started zoloft, I increased my dose from 25mg to 50mg. About 2 or 3 days later the ringing was in both ears and louder. I finally thought maybe it was the zoloft so I started looking up info and it seems it is possible.

I stopped the zoloft after only 2 weeks of usage.

I am hoping this Tinnitus is only temporary since I was only on zoloft for two weeks.

Has anyone had the tinnitus go away after stopping the medication?

Hi Tara, welcome to you. I was the same as I was on an antidepressant in 2002 for anxiety which is what I believe to have started up my T. It has stayed with me since then and I have had many tough moments over the years with it to be honest with you, but that isn't to say that you will have the same challenges. Time will tell here.

You may have had existing very mild hearing loss and the anti depressant made changes to your brain along with the hearing loss that gave you tinnitus.

Get off Zoloft immediately, if you haven't already

Hi Sophie, thanks for the welcome. How long were you on Zoloft?

I stopped the zoloft 3 days ago. About a week after the ringing started. I sure hope that this goes away since I was not on the medication very long. Only 13 days.

@TaraOC

It's very possible that it will go away. It does for many people who get it from ADs. I myself got mine from an AD lexapro. It is slowly fading away and doesn't bother so much like it used to. If it doesn't complete go away i know I'll be just fine. I know several people in my personal life who have tinnitus (varies in degree of severity) and they aren't at all bothered by it. My advice would be get off the forums, stop googling about it and get on with life. You know what it sounds like and that's all you need to know. Obsessing about it won't help and will likely make your anxiety way worse. I'm only here bc I had a private message from someone and saw this post. Also just know that if it doesn't go away you will habituate and live a normal life. Millions of people have it and the vast majority find a way to cope where is never bothers them. Just protect your ears in situations when you should. If you ever need to talk or want support feel free to private message me. Hope you get to feeling better soon!

:huganimation:Good advice there Tara from Ping43. Given you have anxiety too this condition feeds off that. You will be ok - you really are stronger than you think as I have learnt about myself over the years.
