Tinnitus Since
11/2004
Cause of Tinnitus
unknown
Just found this site. Have had Tinnitus since 2004 concentrated in right ear. Been to Duke, have the neuromonics device - nothing seems to help. It is 1:46 PM where I live. Haven't been out of house all day. Rules my life. Spouse passed just a short time after I got this. Don't even like to say the name. Without the help, encouragement and prayers of a few good friends, don't know where I would be. In fact, don't seem to know where I'm going.

Hi @ibelievetoo ,
Tinnitus can be hard going and the unwanted emotions that come with it.
Try to stay positive and get out of the house for a walk in the fresh air when you can and don't shut yourself away.
If you have not had your ears checked recently it might be worth getting one done.
Try sound therapy at night and have back ground sounds on in the day to help not focus on your tinnitus sound.

We are all here around the clock to support you so keep posting for support...lots of love glynis

Welcome to the forum. Glynis has given you great advice. I will add that if you haven't tried these below perhaps give them some consideration.

Helping the ears and hearing with supplements:
Members here often recommend some good supplements, such as NAC, Magnesium, Zinc, B12, D3, etc.

Diet or life style change:
Members often advice reducing intake of salt, sugar, MSG, caffeine, alcohol etc. and perhaps do some relaxing exercises or hobbies to ease the stress and anxiety from T.

Helping sleep and calming the nerves:
Sleep deprivation is one sure way to fire up T. Get some bed time masking such as a sound machine or a sound pillow to help fall asleep better. Also, instead of sleep or anti-anxiety meds from the doctor, you can try natural alternatives such as Catnip, Valerian, Hops, Passion Flower, Lemon Balm, Chamomile, Lavender, Kava, Melatonin etc. You can google search each of them to know their use and see if you can take them as a supplement. Check out this site on using natural herbs for sleep problem:

Sorry about losing your wife. I have lost my 5-year old son so I know what it is like to lose someone so dear. Grief has been known as a cause of or a factor of aggravating T. Try your very best to move on as our deceased loved ones don't want their departure to cause so much suffering to us. They are in a better place and will rest in peace to see us able to move on with our life again. God bless and comfort you in time of need.

Here are a few good sites with excellent sounds for sound therapy that Glynis mentions above:

TT's audio player: https://www.tinnitustalk.com/audioplayer/

or this online sound library, particularly the self-mix nature sounds: http://mynoise.net/

or download free sound generator 'aire freshener': http://www.peterhirschberg.com/mysoftware.html

or search youtube with words like 'tinnitus masking sounds', 'white noise', 'rain sound' etc

Hi ibelievetoo

Just wanted to take a few moments to say that you will be well taken care of at this Forum, because there are so many people who have experienced what you are now going through and they just want to offer you help and assistance whenever they can.

Glynis and billie48 are spot-on with their positive advice, so do keep in touch with them.

It's obviously a double blow for you right now as you are also going through a deep sense of loss and mourning ... and as you mention that you are receiving prayers from some good close friends, may I also encourage you and say that you are also in my prayers too.

Blessings
Paul

Just found your support group yesterday, 04-11-16. I noticed some discussion on the Neuromonics device which I purchased in Knoxville, Tn. after attending a seminar. This was in 2007. The cost was over $4,00.00. I have all of my paperwork. Not in front of me right now. My husband was alive at the time and I was desperate. After testing, I was to wear the device for 2 hrs. a day. Could split the time up if so desired. After the passing of my husband I made a trip to Duke University. Had my records transferred there. The Device would have cost half the price I paid had I known it was offered at Duke. Don't know the reason for such a huge difference. Still have the device. Still have the noise which is concentrated in my right ear. Just put my feet on the floor one morning and it started. Don't know if this will be helpful to anyone. If it wasn't for a few good, understand and prayful friends, don't know what I would do.

Received an email from University of Arkansas late this afternoon. Will get back in touch with the representative on Monday. This is regarding the rTMS treatment. This would be a one way 650 mi. trip for me. I know nothing about this treatment as I just happened upon it maybe 2 wks. ago. Kind of the way I happened upon this site. It is 11:40PM where I live and I just found your encouraging words for me from Monday. Sure all can tell I'm not real familiar with the way things work here. Wanted to know if anyone has any info. about the rTMS. Sort of in the dark about it all, even me getting to where I am with your group. I hope this goes somewhere that someone will see. If so, I am appreciatively awaiting.
