If I Already Have Tinnitus, Can a Short 95 dB Yell Cause Further Permanent Damage?

I'm two months into tinnitus. Mine is pretty mild - random short interval ringing but constant high-frequency bird chirps.

Today, my wife calls/yells our daughter's name while she's a foot or two from my ear, probably 95 dB or so. The yell is just a first name, so around half a second in duration.

I expect this sort of thing can cause a spike, but is this a realistic potential cause of further permanent damage?

It will not cause any permanent damage. It is probably just a spike for a few days or so. Don't worry.

The acoustic reflexes in your ears were probably triggered and protected your hearing for a few seconds. They have a slight delay in the order of 0.05 seconds, which shouldn't be a problem for a 95 dB sound.

It will be very annoying, ask them to please be careful. That's all you can do. You will gradually improve. Cumulatively over time it might get worse. So ask people to be considerate.

Just smacking a mosquito will trigger my tinnitus.
