If Tinnitus Was NOT Caused by Ototoxic Drugs, Will Taking an Ototoxic Drug STILL Spike the Tinnitus?

If one did NOT get tinnitus from ototoxicity, does it mean taking antibiotics will STILL spike my tinnitus? Or even one tablet of an ototoxic medication?

People who have tinnitus from ototoxic medications should still worry about protecting their ears from loud noises.

People who have tinnitus from loud noises should still worried about protecting their bodies from ototoxic medications.

Damage is damage no matter how you got it.

My 2 cents.

That's true :( I'm just very paranoid when it comes to medications, I don't know if even one tablet will affect me, if an antibiotic will affect, it's like we can no longer take medications. This sucks :(

Bump because I am also interested in this as well.

For me it did. I got tinnitus immediately from a single loud noise. A few months later I had to take an antibiotic. It made the ringing much louder for a few hours after taking my first dose. I didn't make the connection between the antibiotic and the increased ringing because I was still new to tinnitus and I had never even talked to anyone about it so I had no idea of ototxicity. It didn't occur to me that there was a relationship between the increased ringing and the antibiotic. Though I was alarmed. The second day I took my dose and my tinnitus increased again. This time I made the connection, but it still didn't occur to me that the antibiotic presented the danger of a permanent increase. I took the antibiotic everyday for the five days prescribed and each time my tinnitus increased after taking the dose but then returned to its usual level after a couple of hours or so.

For the last three days I have been sick with either a cold or flu with a fever. I have been taking cold medicine with aspirin in it every 6 hrs. Absolutely no effects on my tinnitus. No reason to suffer with cold/flu symptoms. Try a dose and see what happens. If it spikes the chances of it being permanent are very very slim. Just keep looking for something that works/helps. Everyone is different so you will get several different answers.

Bump for more potential responses.

I have had tinnitus all my life and have taken many medications that were ototoxic and had no side effects on my T growing up. I wonder if the mechanism for T caused by sounds, oxotoxic drugs, or infection are the same. Do they compound on each other? Do people who suffer from noise induced T have to worry as much as someone who got their T from oxotoxic drugs?

Anyone got some science on this?
