Cause of Tinnitus
Probably a mix of ETD and TMJ
I've finally been feeling like I had my life together again, and was excited about it, but then today I was confronted with the loudest noises ever at work.

-Metal clanking on metal really loud.

-A woman standing on an air packet which exploded.

A colleague throwing a heavy item in an entire box with air packets which created a bang like you wouldn't believe.

Other colleague smashing the printer shut so loudly and close to my ear.

Other colleague throwing a bunch of keys in front of me.

I'm feeling very down and shitty about this. And it made me feel like my hyperacusis is creeping back up again, and tinnitus being seconds away from transforming into a solid tone instead of a hiss. I should have never said I was doing better, I seriously jinxed myself.

Sorry just needed to vent.

Hi Suze,

Only time will give you the peace of mind to manage your T and H completely. (also, properly professional help from physicians and counselors if needed).

Don't feel bad or sad with yourself about this things happening, those had always been there, but because we had no problems with our ears in the past we never noticed them.

You will become a "master" of T, you will start to identify real potential damages, from those merely related with anxiety and stress.

You will even start to manage your anxiety when your T change tones, or when you get spikes.

The best for you,

I've only been dealing with tinnitus for the last couple of months. It has been hard. But I have a loving wife and child on the way. I look to them for strength. Work sucks even if you don't have tinnitus or hearing issues. Look for support from someone important in your life. Or if anything, you always have support here. Be strong. Tomorrow will be better.

Have you told your co-workers about the impact noise makes on you? You may consider wearing earplugs when you are at work.

Those shocks might cause a temporary spike, but the spike will likely not be permanent. However, if one gets enough of these shocks, eventually the spike might become permanent. If you don't get a spike when you wake up tomorrow, chances are that you won't get a spike.

So we have to live with this the rest of our lives? fearing whether one day it will become permanent? :(

Can you wear earplugs at work? Sounds like a pretty sketchy environment for a tinnitus sufferer...

I wish I had been fearing permanent tinnitus before I got T. I wouldn't have gotten T, and it would have been totally worth it.

I wish we were all informed about Tinnitus.

Thank you all guys! My tinnitus is most likely from TMJ and bad neck/posture. I can tell because I can control the volume by massaging muscles, relaxing my jaw and stretching my neck. I also had a hearing test done which showed I had above average hearing, so hopefully loud sounds won't give me spikes, but they obviously can give me hearing loss and perhaps proper tinnitus if stuff like this keeps happening on a daily basis. I work in a workshop, which is indeed very noisy. I wear plugs most of the time, but try to avoid it sometimes in relation to ear wax issues/ ear infection and worsening my hyperacusis and noise sensitivity. I was wearing plugs when most of this happened, but it still gave me a strong physical reaction because the noise was just THAT loud :(. My ears seem to not be any different than usual, despite an increased noise sensitivity, but last night they were acting really weird, but I think that was more related to me doing a work out which made my neck hurt, than the noise.
