- Cause of Tinnitus
- going for a rim shot on the snare drum.
Hey folks... It's been a while since I have been here... I am sure many of you new guys are wondering how us sufferers could ever not come here everyday but the truth is that in many cases your tinnitus improves to a slight degree (it should stabilize... at night it used to go crazy when I would lay down for bed... not anymore) and you just get used to it and adapt your life to it. When I sleep at night I have an Amazon Alexa and just tell it to play rain sounds... that machine is a gift from god!!!!
With that being said, I just wanted to inform you that when I first got tinnitus & hyperacusis, my hyperacusis was real bad... I would listen to a particular song and the snare drum combined with a tambourine drove me nuts... the sound of stacked paper hitting a hard wood desk felt like a nail stabbing me in the ear... bus exhaust noises hurt like hell... many of those subsided over time but the worst was car horns which was something I thought I would never be able to deal with...
Well that was then... fast forward to last week and I am walking in the street and BAM!! A car passed by with an extremely loud horn next to me and I didn't even flinch... was I concerned? A little but I continued my day... no spikes or any lingering effects... it may have taken all these years but my hyperacusis has improved!!!
My advice is be cautious in the beginning and get custom fitted musician ear plugs for loud events... while at home keep your ears free and continue on as you will and use white noise and other background sounds to help you desensitize your ears... if you are going to not so loud areas I would suggest after some time to stop wearing the protection and allow your ears to continue to adjust... you may have some moments but over time you will improve...
I will leave my ranting at that.. For all of you newbs I am telling you to hang in there and I promise over time your life will return to something very much like before you got this.
