I'm Right Now Sitting in Silence

I havent had silence like I did when I was on curcumin like 2 weeks ago.

Might be worth taking smaller doses that are "safe" and see if it works since you can take it long term?

No I have a wonderful understanding wife.

I'm glad to hear that you wife is understanding! Tinnitus can also be hard on our partners too.

I just found out the scientific reason why curcumin will not work to regenerate hair cells. It's still good for you though.

Hey John - Maybe the silence you experienced was due to curcumin increasing BDNF levels in the audiotory part of your brain, which made it possible for the brain to ignore the T?

Yeah maybe. It seems like my lowest tinnitus days involve that stuff.

So maybe if we stack supplements that increases BNDF level at max safe dosage and use other natural ways to increase BNDF levels, we can sustain the silence or even cause a permanent change in the brain over time

I'm taking 7,8 dhf everyday. That's a bdnf mimicker.

Have you noticed any change? And do you stack it with anything from the BNDF list other than curcumin?
Yeah, vodka.
Not really any permanent changes. I did just have 3 straight days of really low tinnitus. The high pitch hiss is back today. ever since my last acoustic trauma 5 weeks ago it doesnt go away when i sleep, and it used to. The 7,8 dhf just kinda helps me focus at work.

I see - ill make a list and try it out, im not that into vodka

On the weekend i drank a lot of wine but it made my tinnitus louder again:(. I should try different types of alcohol:D

@JohnAdams Curious about this curcumin thing. How long has it been since you quit taking it, and is your tinnitus coming back to baseline at all? I had a spike in August (noise related I believe, but possibly ototoxicity from Toradol injection) that took me from very mild, almost unnoticeable (to me) to moderate. I hesitate to call it severe since there isn't really a scale for this sort of thing.

Anyway, I'm curious to try new things that might help bring it back down. Currently it seems it might just be getting worse, despite taking a break from noise. Other feel free to weigh in as well, and greetings. I'm a longtime reader here that finally decided to join up.

I'm sorry, what does this mean?
I'd be thrilled if I had really low tinnitus for days... if I could only figure out if there is a reason why it spikes for 2-3 days and then goes a little quieter other days.

The reason it quiet down because you get a little used to it and it doesn't scare you as much .I got T in Jan, and it was loud. I don't know why, but it could be because: stress ( I had a lot) , neck pain, anxiety. I fricked out immediately, so my brain picked it up as a threat. Of course all doctors said... Nothing wrong, you have to live with it. I started research and found out a lot of information. First, I went to chiropractor and massage therapist to fix my neck ( I guess I had to get a nice kick from my T to do it :) ), then changed my diet ( intermittent fasting with no sugar at all) I added tumeric supplements, daily relaxation exercises in the morning.... And the major one -i started talking to my brain ....I am not afraid, it bothers me but it is not harmful, just annoying. I watch a lot of videos about neuroplasticity!!!! It is miracle. I started addressing my feelings to T, not T itself. Now, I hear T ( only if I really really try to find it) maybe two times a day for about 3 min....I immediately tell myself " oh shit, not you, I am too busy for you now, and you don't scare me, so stop annoying me... And it goes away. I literally just tell myself that it's not threat and unneeded :) also, I prepare myself for a spike. Something like : well I enjoy the silence, but if it comes back, I will kick it's a$$. I was so stressed and depressed about it in the beginning, I thought I am going crazy. Not now guys, not now.

That's so friggen weird. When I drink too much :( and have a hangover my tinnitus is always much lower.

I can't even remember that weekend, but i can imagine it was just a normal fluctuation. The only REAL spike i got from alcohol was from Gin Tonic. Hell, that was terrible.

Hi there @JohnAdams, does your tinnitus still come and go? i sometimes have days without tinnitus and then it comes back. I see what you said earlier on that when you are not hearing it you, you're dreading it to come back.

Have you ever come across any literature as to why tinnitus comes and goes?

Alot has happened with me since I posted this. I was very early in and have since had another noise exposure, an experimental treatment, and another noise exposure. I have not read anything that adequately explains why it fluctuates.

Hello John
Sorry, you made me very curious here. I really wonder: how much did this treatment help? Did it improve your T, and did it improve your hearing? I guess this was one of the early attempts at stem cell therapy, which probably aimed at regenerating lost hair cells and/or restore lost synapses to the nerve.
Thanks a lot for your response. I'm incredibly curious where we will be in 5-10 years. Wondering in what kind of age I've been born into, what stuff we will be able to treat that was just considered permanent damage before. :D The only big surgery I've ever been through was apendectomy (removal of the appendix). 30 years ago that would have meant a cut like in caesarean delivery, about 15cm wide! That means you're not going anywhere for a month. Today they just use three tiny 1cm-diameter cuts, no problem to go home after 2 days! I also met a guy who has psoriasis with an arthritis component, which can also be very debilitating. Today they can create special antibody-medicine that suppresses psoriasis with little side effects. Unfortunately the medicine is quite expensive so it probably only works because Switzerland's NHS is still in a halfway decent state.

I have had a significant improvement in all of my symptoms, hearing clarity, hyperacusis, and tinnitus level. The only thing I have not noticed any improvement in is my eye floaters.

I've had eye floaters for as long as I can remember. They have never gone away and are really bad. I think they have stayed the same shape for the most part. Got them from nearsightedness. Probably from the hearing loss too, if that stuff really is accurate. There isn't any cure for it. Sometimes you're lucky and they dissolve, sometimes not.
