I'm So Done

Do you know what might have caused it to get worse?
I know what hasn't caused it to get worse and that is noise because I avoid noises that are loud. I avoid all concerts, cinema, etc. I moved out of my noisy job into the office. It could just be aging process or it could be the low dose meds over the years. I'm vertually off mirtazapine and take a bit of sleeping tab sometimes. Plan is to be completely off meds and see if things improve. But it could be some unknown reason.

What meds (besides mirtazapine) have you been taking?
I'm down to a quarter of a 15mg mirtazapine a couple of times a week. Also a quarter of a 10mg temazepam s couple of times a week. Close to my goal but sleep difficult with such screaming tinnitus. Don't know how people sleep through it. In the early days I was on amitriptyline, then mirtazapine. I never took high doses of anything as I would rather avoid meds but working full time with chronic insomnia is very tough. Hence the meds. At times I used zopiclone in place to temazepam.

This is very good information. Stay off noise and also meditation. Both are bad , so scary medication supposed to make you feel better, but it can also make things worse.

@Jazzer I meant to say medication, word spell mess me up . Meditation is awesome, that what carry me thru also. Only a I idiot will say bad things about meditation. Sorry a typo.

It's been four years. I've tried Xanax, antidepressants, and much more. Nothing. I'm currently starting a new antidepressant that I hope I wont have to discontinue like the rest I've tried (had to discontinue because the side effects were horrifying).
Are you sure about the antidepressant things? I heard they make tinnitus worse.. Maybe they are causing you hearing loss... I was also really depressed and the my ENT gave me Xanax... I did not want to take it. I don't believe in that stuff. As long as I can manage my emotions by myself I am not going to take those medications bc they can worsen my condition and bring me only more depression. Have you been taking vitamins? Try B vitamins injenctions or Mg bc they all protect your hearing before exposing to loud noises. My recommendation is to also Btaserc or betahistine. It improves blood circulation in your ears and for me it reduced the feeling of ear fullness....

This is sickening. It's so frustrating to know people are going through agony and most professionals are less than empathetic.

I think I speak for most men on this site when I say how disheartening it is to read about young women in situations like yours. Something needs to be done and soon.

I'm very close to starting a Tinnitus foundation designed to take in contributions allotted to science and medical fields in search of a cure.

I don't buy for a second that these sounds are coming from our brain(s). I say that for a number of reasons but I wont get into it. We as a collective group can't just sit back and rely on theory and general lack of concern.

From the bottom of my heart...please stay strong. Do whatever it takes to get through the day...one day at a time.

I know it's easier said than done but everybody has faith in you more than you know. I know you can do it.

The other day, I have had that thought too. I heard a "multiple bubbles bursting" sound in my bad ear as I sneezed. This had never happened before, and there was nothing as far as my other ear is concerned. So this kind of means that there is something physically wrong with my bad ear (more than a year after the original acoustic trauma). Could it be the thing that is causing T?!

hello derpytia,
just pray to our lord jesus to give you a peace of mind and ask guidance to your problem and he will listen and help you and keep you calm.
I will pray for you,
stay positive always,
Robert

If you do start that then you have my sword and my axe.

Sorry to hear about your struggle...you are a very strong person.
I fought this monster for 3 months and if it weren't for accidentally discovering that playing back the same frequency as my T turns down the volume, I doubt that I would be here writing this rite now.
Your big hearing loss seems strange.
Have you checked for Lyme disease?
It is notoriously hard to diagnose through blood test, but maybe someone in your area does a Vega machine testing?
What do you use to play the same sound as your T-an app or website?

I use just your average online tone generator...there are all kinds of them out there.
This is very effective at taking the sharp edge of the T, especially before bed.
Also it lowers the overall volume..my T got reduced by at least 50% ever since I started doing this last week.

Be very careful when you use one of these. They can cause spikes/new tones. If you decide to use one, at least make sure that the volume on your computer is set to low. You can always slowly increase the volume.

Yes my volume is always on the low side..it just needs to be slightly higher than the T for it to be effective.

Some websites play the sounds so loudly, that even if your volume is set to something like 40% of the maximum volume, the sound would still feel like it is too loud. You might want to set the volume to 5% whenever you are about to listen to one of those sounds at an unfamiliar website.

Hello @derpytia

I wish I knew the right words to say to soothe your pain and suffering. To me you're an absolute hero. Everybody who has to endure with this debilitating monster tinnitus and hearing loss is.

My life has also turned 180° since I got it. Now I'm not even sure what the actual culprit was and am getting spikes out of sheer stress that my medication that I was given by 'experts' could be making it permanently worse.

I just want to say, you have made it this far and there just might be something on the horizon soon that will give us all relieve. You never know. There is more and more research dedicated to finding a solution to hearing loss and tinnitus (keep checking the Research News section from time to time). Probably, it is the Susan Shore's UoM study that will be our first-line real treatment. If it doesn't cure our condition completely, it might still lower the volume of t to the point where we can start living our lives again until there is a legit treatment (read a cure).

Please, keep on fighting. No retreat, no surrender. People like yourself give the strength to push through to others. We're all in this together. This post could give you some more encouragement:
In much broader terms, I would like to mention that there has never been a more exciting time to be alive during the whole timeline spectrum of human history. Humanity has entered the 4th industrial revolution and scientific progress is advancing like never before. Perhaps AI will take a more significant place in history than the invention of the wheel did. Narrowing this down to an example from the field of inner ear otology, we are seeing at least three major pharma companies making progress with therapies targeting the inner ear (Decibel Therapeutics, Frequency Therapeutics, and Otonomy). Although it hasn't been mentioned specifically anywhere on public boards, my guess is that the recent announcement about developing a neurotrophin with superior adhesive properties will likely become part of the Decibel Therapeutics pipeline. On a separate note, as stem cell therapy continues to become more commonplace, we will without a doubt start to hear more stories about people getting a reduction in their tinnitus (as an unintended but beneficial side-effect of seeking treatment for some other condition).

I like your post.
Let's declare a war on this evil piece of sh*t life destroying motherf***ker!!
Also lets declare a war on all the so called specialists and professionals, who don't know their ass from a hole in the ground and tell you to just "learn to live with it", while pushing you out the door.
Anybody who experiences this type of rejection by a so called ENT professional, make them pay...whether it is through launching a complaint for unprofessional misconduct or getting in his/her's face.
Let's raise awareness with politicians and general public.

Fuck Tinnitus!!!...let's hang it upside down it by it's balls and bash it's head in Negan style like a pinata (for the Walking Dead fans out there)
