Is Flagyl safe to take with tinnitus?

I'm experiencing a severe interstitial cystitis flare, possibly related to bacterial vaginosis, and Flagyl was recommended. I'm scared to take it since my tinnitus has mostly not been an issue lately.

Does anyone have any advice?

What about Fasigyn (Tindazole)?

Doctor has given me the option of a 7 day course of Flagyl or 4 tablets only of Fasigyn.
Again, not a problem.

But wouldn't it be easier to tell your doctor that you have tinnitus and ask him or her to do the research before writing you a prescription - any prescription. Medicine is, in the final analysis, a service industry. And that's what your doctor is being paid for!

Did you end up taking Flagyl, Deb? I just completed a 7 day course after being told by my doctor and my pharmacist it wasn't ototoxic, however, my ears have been ringing so loudly since starting it and are still ringing louder than normal since I stopped yesterday.

Natalie, I'm sorry about your tinnitus. I got severe tinnitus and visual snow after taking Flagyl for an intestinal problem. That was 14 years ago and it never went away. I hate doctors saying it's safe for tinnitus when it's not. The Spanish leaflet clearly warns about tinnitus as one of the many side effects of this nasty drug. Take NAC, it may help. Good luck.

Hi Natalie,

I know this is an old post but I just finished 7 days of a 10-day course of Flagyl. I stopped taking it because of tinnitus increase.

Did the spike ever go down for you? Just looking for some answers.

Thanks.

Do we have any more input on this subject?

About a week ago, I took Amoxicillin and Metronidazole, and since then, I've experienced an increase in my tinnitus and hyperacusis, along with a persistent, horrible migraine.
My tinnitus has worsened twice: after taking Cephalexin and Amoxicillin. I don't believe it's due to ototoxicity. I think it's more likely related to mast cell activation syndrome (MCAS) and/or gut dysbiosis.
