Hi.
Hope you're well.
The more I read the more I seem to come to the conclusion that GABA is the answer to reliably lowering tinnitus for a lot of people.
Things that modulate/increase GABA in the brain seem to lower tinnitus for the vast majority of people;
Examples
Benzos like Xanax - Tonnes of glowing reviews of Xanax lowering people's tinnitus here (https://www.drugs.com/comments/alprazolam/for-tinnitus.html).
Alcohol like wine and beer - Again, these substances have shown to reduce tinnitus volume in a vast majority of people.
Magnesium/L-theanine - These substances have also shown to reduce tinnitus volume in a lot of people.
SSRI antidepressants - Although antidepressants primarily work on Seratonin there is evidence in some journals that show that they have a secondary effect on GABA.
Basically, it seems, to me, that there is quite a clear link between GABA and tinnitus, and although it doesn't work for everyone, for a lot of people, substances that alter/increase GABA have a positive beneficial effect on tinnitus volume or at least perception of volume, which is essentially the same thing.
Now, the issue is that all of the above GABA acting supplements have side effects, some more serious than others.
So, is naturally increasing GABA the key to lowering tinnitus for a vast majority of people?
I'd look forward to hearing your thoughts on this...
