Cause of Tinnitus
Listening to music too loud; concerts with no protection.
I have noise induced tinnitus and have given up earphones altogether.

Is it safe to listen to music on a low volume through my phone without earphones on?

I have ear protection on just in case.

Should it be okay?

Yes, that should be fine.

Are your ears sensitive? Do you have hyperacusis?

In my opinion and experience, I think this is an overkill if you don't have the above mentioned problems. Don't blast music of course, but on low volume it should be OK.

Also, I think overprotection is still better than underprotection, but it carries risks as well. Check out the forum on threads of overprotection and hyperacusis. If you deprive your ears of sound, it's not beneficial either.

Yeah. I keep music playing on speakers at a low volume quite a bit of the time when I'm working/studying but make sure to keep it down as much as possible. If I'm honest, it's more of background noise that really listening to it but even when my tinnitus had a really bad spike, it didn't cause any issues for me whatsoever.

I used to use headphones in the evening for an hour or so before bed but these days, it upsets my tinnitus too much sadly, so I'm probably selling them. I guess it's much easier to listen at a safe volume with speakers or on my phone aloud. I don't miss it too much though. If you want to listen to music at safely but still enjoy it as much as before, it might be a good idea to get some decent but affordable speakers and keep the volume low. As a plus, it's much easier to measure the decibels with speakers so you can make sure it's safe. It works for me but then again, it may be different for you.
